About this product

Product Information

Classic Hitchcock. It is 1939 and Johnny Jones, a naive police reporter, is sent by his even more naive boss to cover a "crime" story that's unfolding in Europe: the potential outbreak of a second world war. Unprepared for the dangerous political landscape he's entering, Johnny manages to land smack in the middle of a spy ring that is masquerading as a peace organization.

  • foreign correspondent

Foreign correspondent was one of Alfred Hitchcock's earlier films. But, even in this film, he leaves the strong signature marks that identify virtually all of his later films. Considering the time, just before the outbreak of world war two, he climaxes the film with a scene that can only be classed as unforgettable--the shooting down of a n airliner by a german gunboat. The camera is aboard the plane as it is crippled and crashes into the sea, quickly floods and sinks. Survivors scramble onto a chunk of wreckage where they are rescued. The stark reality of that scene has stayed with me since the first time I saw the film in the mid-50s. I treasure having it

  • Hitchcock's fabulous "Foreign Correspondent."

"Foreign Correspondent" is so good, it was nominated for six 1940 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Alfred Hitchcock directs this espionage thriller set in prewar Europe. The stars of the film include Joel McCrea, Laraine Day, Herbert Marshall, George Sanders, Albert Basserman, and Robert Benchley. I found myself intently watching the movie for it's entire two hours. Hitchcock did a fabulous job directing the film and I am giving it thumbs up with four stars. Do not miss it.

  • Foreign Correspondent - 1940 - Alfred Hitchcock

The 1940 classic Alfred Hitchcock movie. Completed just before WWII, Hitchcock actually flew to London days before the bombing started to shoot a final scene. It was nominated for several Oscars in 1941. Plot summary: Johnny Jones is an action reporter on a New York newspaper. The editor appoints him European correspondent because he is fed up with the dry, reports he currently gets. Jones' first assignment is to get the inside story on a secret treaty agreed between two European countries by the famous diplomat, Mr. Van Meer. However things don't go to plan and Jones enlists the help of a young woman to help track down a group of spies.
