  • Amazing.. all the way around

Love him or hate him, if there is one thing that can collectively be said for Thom York, it is that he evolves musically. No one can ever accuse him of being stagnant or not keeping up with the times. I’ve read reviews on this album that complained that it is too reminiscent of Amnesiac and not as cutting edge as his usual endeavors. I would have to disagree completely. Where this album does bring someone to think that it is flavored with Amnesiac influence, it is also completely all its own. It’s a darker, more intimate album, with lyrics that are both abstract and relatable. Piano, electronic sounds, and the beloved instrumental voice of Yorke make this album completely amazing. Beautifully written, haunting songs, moving lyrics and, as usual, the cutting edge sound you’d come ...

  • Dark Star

It will surprise no-one that Thom Yorke’s debut solo album is more ‘Kid A’ than ‘The Bends’, but in my opinion his claustrophobic and downbeat songwriting is better served by electronica than blazing guitars. ‘The Eraser’ is a tremendous effort. There is not one bad track here; Yorke’s voice and lyrical vision are as strident and passionate as ever whilst the downbeat electronic backing is atmospheric yet melodic and accessible. Standout tracks are the title song, driven by Jonny Greenwood’s urgent piano chords and the moving ‘Harrowdown Hill’ written about the death of David Kelly. Hardcore electronica fans may dismiss this as safe and hardly ground-breaking (it is certainly not Squarepusher) but this is a great record which really stays with you. Rock fans would be advised to ...

  • A Sweet Alternative to Radiohead's Alternative Sound

I really like the intimacy of this recording. My understanding is that it was largely recorded by Thom on his Mac. It feels like this was done in his living room. The vocals are up-close and personal, as are the drums which are very reminiscent of Kid A/Amnesiac - tight little drums (ala Packd Like Sardines, etc). Lots of surprises in the production when listening with headphones. Really excellent 1st "solo" effort, although Thom says it is anything but. K then.

  • The Eraser-Thom Yorke

I love this CD. The song Analyse is on the end credits to the movie The Prestige and it made me want to go get the whole CD. Thom Yorke is easy to listen to and every Radiohead fan should buy The Eraser. It's an experimental sound and not pop music in any sense but pleasant.
