About this product

Product Information

Final Fantasy XIII is a role-playing game for high-def consoles, set in an original realm that blends futuristic technology and ancient mysticism. Players follow the epic adventure of a group of gifted youngsters, informally led by an orphan girl called Lightning. The game uses an original variation on the "Active Time Battle" system, seen in earlier Final Fantasy adventures. Players queue up fighting moves for their hero to attempt, limited by the number of "Command Slot" action points they have.

Characters earn additional action points as they level up. Combat plays out in a real-time flow. As players control the key character in each battle, the computer directs the moves of other heroes. Players can influence the actions of the allies in the fight by using the "Paradigm Shift" feature to change a computer-controlled character's class type.

In the traditions of the top-selling Final Fantasy series, the game's story is told cinematically, with emotionally charged interactions between highly expressive characters, in intricately detailed, computer-generated movie sequences that run between the player-controlled action. The game begins in the mystical metropolis of Cocoon, created ages earlier by godlike titans called the fal'Cie. The city floats high above the earth, keeping its citizens sheltered and safe from the dangers of the wilderness below.

Among the populace, there are certain individuals known as I'Cie, who bear the mark of the ancient creators. This mark indicates great power, but also great danger. Those who carry it -- including the young heroes of the adventure -- are considered to be cursed. At moments of great peril, I'Cie can summon a mystical Eidolon guardian being to fight alongside them, and in certain circumstances, they can temporarily join with their summoned entities to form powerful vehicles or weapons, in the game's "Gestalt Mode."

    Its pretty good.

The game is underrated, I highly recommend trying it out for yourself if you haven't even if it "not likeother final fantasy games" its still pretty good at what it does. (Even if its incredibly linear)

    Question Mark

I've been a FF fan for awhile but after Final Fantasy 10-2(or the disaster as i call it ) I've been kind of lost on the direction of Final Fantasy . Well Final Fantasy 12 was good but the story line..... anyway I played Final Fantasy 13 for about 2 hours and was completely lost, I had no idea what was going on and who the people were in the game . The game just kind of throws you into the world and doesn't really explain itself . It just like goes through like you're supposed to know whats going on and the tutorials that comes up a lot helps but i don't know. In Final Fantasy 10 (which i consider to be the best FF) you start of with a character you connect with you can name and see life through his eyes. then they start you of in a little small town where you can meet the characters and ...

  • You are paying for the graphics

Final Fantasy XIII has been to my opinion, is one of the worst game plays of recent final fantasy games. Almost every map is just a narrow path that you follow; encountering monster after monster, boss fight, and then end of chapter. The battles with certain teams up have almost put me to sleep since all they do it stand there and shoot their guns or wave their wands. And the creativity with the names is some of the worst I seen so far, i.e. Lighting, Snow, Hope, Fang… list continues The upgrade feature they used to increase the power of your weapons and items I believe to be rather stupid to put it simple, since you hardly make any Gil in the game till later when you encounter monsters that give you Gil upon beating them (which is on the 3rd disc [Xbox]) and to top it all off you can’t ...

  • Quite a Let Down

The graphics in this game are absolutely incredible and is the leading factor in why the rating is high. The storyline, however, is a bit weak; it's not really boring but rarely does it have any real engaging moments where you "can't put the controller down". Also, unlike earlier FF, XIII doesn't allow for the free roaming of the various areas you visit. Yes, every now and then there's a nook where you can find another treasure orb but for the most part, everything is pretty much laid out in front and your only choices are to move forward or backward (for whatever reason) and move forward again. Moving from side to side, like in XII where you could travel freely among the areas, is almost never seen throughout the bulk of the game. This whole lack of freedom is pretty tiresome and ...

  • Great Graphics!

There are alot of things I love about this game and some that I don't. I love the graphics in this game. Square Enix really took it to the next level. I also really like the more complex battle sequences. However, I do wish that this game had had a little better plot line to it and enabled a bit more free roam and interaction with people. Granted, I still do have a ways to go in the game, but from what I've seen so far, the game has just consisted of a lot of cut scenes, enemy battles, and walking down paths that have already been set out before you. However, It's still captivating enough to keep me coming back to it. So let's see how the rest of the game pans out.
