My New Favorite Workhorse
The clutch on my 10+ year old Makita 18V drill driver was starting to slip a little more often so I figured I should get a replacement as I started work on a new addition to my home. I purchased this Makita hammer drill driver because it is about the same size as my old Makita drill but will also double as a hammer drill when I need one. I compared features of different Makita hammer drills and this one seemed to be the best value - it is brushless, has alot of power when I need it, and is reasonably small. I own 6 Makita 18 volt drills and all of them have worked flawlessly for years, so I bought the XPH07Z specifically for the 1090 inch pound torque. When it arrived, the first thing I did was test the output torque. I used a new, calibrated, digital torque meter. The maximum I could get out was 420 inch pounds, and that was by letting the drill come up to speed and then stop it. The internal torque/current limiter tripped out well below the rated torque (38%). I measured the no rotation, starting stall torque at 250 to 300 inch pounds. This drill is excellent. I could be a product tester. I'll break something if it's not a quality thing. I don't even try to break stuff I just do. Anyways makita in general is awesome. This tool is no exception. It's a freaking beast. Buy it it's awesome. I'm a professional tradesman I use it every day. It's my go to drill. It honestly surprises me sometimes as to the beating it takes and the ease at which it drill holes. I use it mainly to drill 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 holes through wood. It can handle much larger bits. I've used 1 1/2 nail eatting bits with no problem. Masonry bits are good. This drill is excellent. I could be a product tester. I'll break something if it's not a quality thing. This is my second xph07 and the fifth one at the shop. Everyone here loves it, the drill is really high torque and will drill stuff that you're not supposed to on speed 2. Just don't forget to switch it to speed one when really working the drill because it will overheat. The thing is so powerful it will push right through anything on speed 2 even thought it's not good for it. Use it wisely and it's a powerhouse.This is my second xph07 and the fifth one at the shop. More power than you will ever need
This drill is extremely powerful make sure you use the side handle I already almost broke my wrist once. Hammer function works great, the 2 speeds are great. This drill will drill things in speed 2 no other drill will.
