A feature-packed synth MONSTER!
Thanks to my Japanese friends, I finally scored a rare KORG microX synth. It arrived in its own sturdy polypropolene case, which I appreciate, and came complete with a comprehensive manual--all in Japanese. No worries; I have the PDF manual in the Mac. I'll really need it, for this monster packs literally thousands of highest-quality sounds (probably from the Triton or other KORG synths) in its deceptively small form factor, and has lots of ways (an understatement) to program and modify sounds yourself. Surprisingly, the microX is easy to use and to program, especially for menu-driven freaks like myself. I love that it fits on top of my synth rack, and it's light enough to fit on top of a mic stand with an adapter (not included). The 25-key velocity-sensitive keyboard is of a surprisingly ... The 25-key velocity-sensitive keyboard is of a surprisingly good quality, too; as good as their larger synths, and it also has an assignable joystick controller and assignable knobs for instant tweaking. For me, a guitar-synth nerd who has not played much keyboards, this is the Ultimate synth to have at my side. It also has two super-flexible and syncable arpeggiators, numerous drum kits, and a boatload of quality on-board effects--everything syncable to everything else and to MIDI. I don't know why KORG stopped making this little beast, but I'm sure glad I discovered this one! MIDI and USB control and assignability is extensive to say the least (get the software if you want to use it as a controller/DAW). It's by far, the most comprehensive synth I've ever seen in such a small package. Wow! I'm STOKED. I really can't think of anything 'bad' or undesirable about this product. Someone warned me about the power supply jack getting loose, but I haven't noticed anything wrong about it--I'll be careful just the same. Another piece of KORG genius--IT ROCKS. Get one if you can.

if you need a small board with a HUGE variety of sounds, here it is.
I purchased this keyboard be ause I needed a large variety of sounds in a small package. I play bass and tenor sax in a live group, and needed to be able to play Auxillary parts that sounded good without take up a lot of stage space. this unit fits nicely on top of a 19" rack, has the same basic soundest as a triton (I was using a triton extreme until I replaced it with this mini-version.), and gives enough real time control to handle all sorts of current music. likes: size, polyphony, real time controls, nice screen, unbeatable variety of good quality need a small sounds for the money. dislikes: a bit flimsy build quality - VERY plasticy. (for this reason, I bought two, anticipating a failure), wall wort supply, no aftertouch. other korg product I own to compare it to: ex8000, ... If you still have any suspicions that the Micro X is much more than a simple toy for adult, but genuine musical tool in small package, take a glance at the spec sheet and indeed at the original price label that shows that this is a synth that does, in fact, need to be taken seriously. For starters, it is powered by Korg's 'HI' (Hyper Integrated) sample and synthesis system, the same technology that fuels the company's up-market Triton range. The Micro X therefore represents the cheapest way of acquiring that legendary 'Korg sound'. And what a lot of sounds it offers: 640 single patches, 384 combinations and 40 drum kits, plus a full GM sound set thrown in for good measure. It also boasts 89 different effects algorithms, with the ability to use up to four at once — one as an insert effect, ...
