Necessary for Insteon with ISY hubs
I'm not going to provide a comprehensive review, but a few comments to guide potential buyers. Firstly, on the subject of longevity, which drives my 4 star score: although earlier versions of the PLM were plagued with short lifespans, the latest versions seem somewhat better. I'm on my second unit in my 10 years of use of my ISYs. This may be better than average. I have a whole-house surge suppression system installed and I think it likely this has helped. Given that local surge suppression isn't possible due to their filtering out the powerline communications, this is really the only option. Secondly, for those considering a migration path to UDI's Polisy hub make note: despite UDI wiki notes to the contrary, serial PLMs are NOT supported either via the Polisy's DB9 or any other method. ... I'm not going to provide a comprehensive review, but a few comments to guide potential buyers. Costly but worth it.
I have a large base of Insteon automation products in my home. Like many Insteon users I was distressed when the company ceased operations. Fortunately, I have spares of most of the parts of my system, but I never thought to have a spare PLM. Therefore, although this product was considerably more expensive than the same product was before the company's collapse, it was well worth the price and kept thousands of dollars worth of Insteon devices in my system operational.
