Synopsis
English verse translations of Molière's two great comedies of marriage and misunderstanding. 'Wilbur has the uncanny ability to create English versions that never feel like translations. They read and play as if they were originally written in English' Dana Gioia, "My notion of translation is that you try to bring it back alive. . . . If you take on a text which is somehow appropriate to you and which you may already love, what you want to do is to be as perfectly the slave of it as you can be."--Richard Wilbur Originally inspired by a revelatory Com die-Fran aise production of The Misanthrope in 1948 Paris, Richard Wilbur has made translating Moli re part of his lifework. These two comedies of marriage and misunderstanding are gathered here in a single volume that is part of TCG's new series (with design by Chip Kidd) to complete trade publication of these vital theatrical works.

- e***g (58)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseExcellent prices on used books in great condition. Shipped out quickly. Product condition is accurate to rating in listing. Thanks! NOTE: For this particular book (I ordered several), it came in a soft cover rather than hard cover as the listing stated. I contacted the seller and they responded promptly. They agreed that it was a listing error and provided me with a full refund for this book (without return required) proving they are both a responsible and trustworthy seller.
- 0***1 (1557)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseThis book arrived within the time period given and was in the 'very good' condition described. Unfortunately, only being packaged in a plastic bag to traverse the Atlantic meant that all four corners got a battering (I would be happy to pay bit more in future for a bit of cardboard support in packaging) but all in all, the price was good and overall service for books that are difficult to get over here, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this seller. Will buy again from them.
