    Best All Around Portable SW Radio

    The Grundig YB400 is everything Passport to WorldBand Radio says it is. It is one of the few radios that some prefer over the Sony ICF-2010/2001D. Audio is probably a little better, and it is almost as sensitive and able to pull in the weaker signals. While construction quality is better than many radios of its time, it's still a notch lower than the Sony. The YB400 telescopic antenna attachment inside the case is a bit flimsy. And the case does not come apart as easily the Sony, which can lead to some tabs snapping off if not careful. But if money is a significant concern, you can't beat the YB400. A Sony 2010 rarely sells for less than $120.00, plus shipping. The YB400 can often be found for about $50.00, and sometimes this will include accessories--traveling pouch, wall adapter, ...
