Great first step into Japanese hand planes.

Think I paid something like $10 or $11 USD for this. A steal. If you're curious about Japanese hand planes and would like to get your hands on one to see what all the fuss is about, this is an absolutely great way to get involved. My own ignorance held me up a bit at first. For instance, I was unaware that most Japanese planes come with a dai (wooden block frame) that is considered "90% ready", and you are expected to do the last 10% tuning yourself. There's a great 3-part series on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQytHrqMsug) that explains exactly how to undertake this "finishing process" and once I watched it, and followed the clear instructions, I was all set and understood my new plane much better. They should really include a slip of paper in the package for us ...

  • Excellent, simple tool

so easy to use, you pull instead of pushing. Deadly sharp. Excellent simple tool that does the job. I am using it to pare down replacement tool handles. Highly recommend, very good value.

  • Nice surprise

I wasn’t expecting much at this cost but with a little work it could be. Not so! This plane was super flat and super sharpe! Like any wood bodied plane adjustment is a learning process. This plane is tight and just right for very fine shavings. Great buy

  • Works very even though I haven’t fine tuned it

I was impressed with how sharp the iron is!! Paper thin shavings for an out of the box plane

  • Best Hand Plane Value Ever

I was skeptical when I saw this $15 Canadian Dollar plane ... delivered to door. It took forevwr to arrive, but they were upfront about that. The white oak body is flat and square, the very hard steel iron was sharp. My main use is for chamfering, and at 55 years of age, I appreciate its diminutive weight. This may be the best $15 ever spent.
