This marriage of seasoned European sensibility and California café culture is the best of both worlds, and it's the reason why you should rush out and buy this book., Better than the cuisine, though, is the writing--and how many restaurant cookbooks can you say that about? Even the recipes are a joy to read., This marriage of seasoned European sensibility and California caf culture is the best of both worlds, and it's the reason why you should rush out and buy this book., Perhaps more valuable than anything else in Judy Rodgers' impressive The Zuni Caf Cookbook is the wisdom of her detailed writings, present in recipes from a simple crostini to an elaborate multi-step braise. Rodgers' understated sensibilities, borne of many years of cooking, illuminate the book's creative composition and leave the reader with not just a great set of recipes, but with an education, too., The Zuni Café Cookbook was the best reviewed cookbook in 2002. Rodgers has helped define California cuisine, and this cookbook captures it well., Bursting with wisdom from every page...Even if it only contained her influential manifesto on salting meats, The Zuni Cafe Cookbook would still be name-checked by countless working cooks as the one book they'd save from a burning kitchen., Perhaps more valuable than anything else in Judy Rodgers' impressive The Zuni Café Cookbook is the wisdom of her detailed writings, present in recipes from a simple crostini to an elaborate multi-step braise. Synopsis
In The Zuni Café Cookbook , a book customers have been anticipating for years, chef and owner Judy Rodgers provides recipes for Zuni's most well-known dishes, ranging from the Zuni Roast Chicken to the Espresso Granita. But Zuni's appeal goes beyond recipes. Harold McGee concludes, "What makes The Zuni Café Cookbook a real treasure is the voice of Zuni's Judy Rodgers," whose book "repeatedly sheds a fresh and revealing light on ingredients and dishes, and even on the nature of cooking itself." Deborah Madison ( Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone ) says the introduction alone "should be required reading for every person who might cook something someday.", In The Zuni Cafe Cookbook, a book customers have been anticipating for years, chef and owner Judy Rodgers provides recipes for Zuni's most well-known dishes, ranging from the Zuni Roast Chicken to the Espresso Granita. A smooth and professional transaction throughout. The item was exactly as described, clearly listed, and fairly priced. Communication from the seller was prompt, polite, and helpful, with dispatch confirmed quickly. The parcel was securely packaged and arrived in excellent condition, ahead of the expected delivery date. Care was taken at every stage of the process. I would be happy to buy from this seller again—many thanks for a reliable and well-handled sale.

Item was exactly as described and packaged to protect it. Seller’s pricing was spot on and when I received it, it was in good condition. Seller actually messaged me when they shipped it (I really appreciated that). Overall I’m happy doing business with them!

The Item itself I rate five stars. The seller, however, I stop at four stars. The seller met two out of three categories I look for when judging my purchasing experience: how well it was packaged, how quickly it was shipped, and how properly it was described; this seller provided prompt shipping and an accurate description, but failed when it came to packaging. The item arrived in a plastic bag without any reinforcement or protection whatsoever and suffered dinged corners on multiple fronts.

An inimitable american chef in too short a volume

I worked with Judy at her flagship Union Hotel in the early80's and a cou[ple of brief stints at Zuni. She was lightning and encyclopedic in her knowledge of food and degustation, a nimble teacher, and a thorough critic and intellect. This volume is a fraction of what she held, but it is attended to as her offspring and conveys her exuberence and "paroxysms of glee" that graced her love of the art and her carrying the tradition of "serving it forth." I've happily given some 20 copies as gifts to newlyweds and students.

  • Not for the beginner cook

While a newbie cook/chef could learn from this work of culinary art, it's really aimed at those who have reached a certain level of proficiency in the kitchen and wish to learn more to help propel their creations to the next level. The writer, who died some time ago, poured herself into the descriptions so that you would not make the same 'errors" she made initially. Nothing fails, but some of the dishes need her special touch so that they really sing and you get the very most from the time and ingredients you've invested. You'll take a lot away from this if you learn anything. It's also a pleasure to read as Judy talks to you through her sentences. It's as if she's there with you. For the cook who thinks she or he has all the reference books they need.

There was NO cover on the book which was disappointing. The picture posted has a cover and it was not share that it was missing the cover. I’m not reviewing the book, but rather the product and description.
