Enhance your underwater photography ventures by shedding new light on your shots with the Nikon Speedlight SB-105 underwater strobe flash. This flash gun operates on four AA batteries. The predecessor to the Nikon SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander strobe, the Nikon SB-105 was originally designed to accompany the Nikonos RF AF, Nikon’s first underwater AF SLR camera. It is compatible with any film camera with an automatic flash, including Sony, Olympus, Canon, and other Nikon cameras, operated by the flash when the strobe is in slave mode. The camera’s flash acts as the commander, triggering the strobe to illuminate your underwater shots. Use the Nikon Speedlight SB-105 equally well with the Nikonos V underwater single-lens reflex camera. Note that the SB-105 is not intended to work with digital SLR cameras. Not only for underwater photography, the Nikon SB-105 can also be used for land photography and is especially suited for bad weather conditions due to its waterproofing and durability. Add this accessory as part of your photography equipment for mobile and wireless use on the go. In addition, SB-105 strobes work well in a photography studio to provide lighting on your still shots. It has a section on the bottom of the strobe to fit a pole mount that can be attached to your underwater camera gear as well as on land tripod equipment with pole mounting. A cable is not required for this wireless strobe to communicate with your commander camera. Two easy-grip dials on the face of the flashes’ housing are manually operated to choose one of its various settings. The housing’s top dial turns the system on and off as well as sets it to standby or slave mode. The bottom dial allows you to choose between four exposure modes. One is Nikon’s TTL (through-the-lens) mode, which is an automatic exposure. The three manual flash modes are mFULL, m1/4, and m1/16 settings. The guide numbers for each of the settings, which is the flash’s ability to illuminate its subject, are 22(11) for mFULL, 11(5.6) for m1/4, and 5.6(2.8) for m1/16. The angle of coverage for the Nikon SB-105 is 103 degrees by 84 degrees on land, and it covers the picture angle of 15mm lenses underwater as well as on land. Additionally, when coupled with a Nikon SW-103 diffuser, it has a 115-degree angle of coverage on land. The SB-105 is part of the Nikonos family of sought after photography accessories and cameras designed specifically for underwater photography from 1961 to 2001. High-performance and lithium-ion batteries are not recommended for these wireless strobes. Instead, choose NiCd batteries, which gives you about 45 flashes before the batteries need to be changed, or alkaline-manganese batteries for up to 120 flashes per set of four AA batteries. Lighting underwater stills with SLR commander cameras is possible to a depth of 320 feet, or 100 meters, as you search for the perfect deep-sea shot. This Nikonos compatible system is a reliable choice for the studio, outdoor and underwater photography lighting.

    Great but....

    Great product but it fits only the model IV, not the latest model V. The model V has five contacts. This only has three and it cannot be used on the model V

    Great value for money, make sure it's been checked out.

    The Nikon Speedlight SB-105 is a powerful battery operated underwater flash gun that uses Nikon's TTL system and can be triggered from any camera flash in slave mode. I purchased the SB-105 to use with my Nikonos V underwater camera in TTL mode. However, I am also using it above and below water with my Olympus C-5060 in slave mode. The standard 4 x AA batteries are readily available in most places. The SB-105 is a well built product and available used at a reasonable price. Make sure the product has been fully tested before you buy.
