McCullough's Usual Outstanding Work
I have read all of McCullough's "Rome" books thus far and found each to be marvelous reading. I like her historical accuracy and explanations. Her ability to describe astounds me. For example, her writing about Caesar and Cleopatra's sailing up the Nile with the stories of the deities in each area was fascinating. I love how she makes her characters so complex. Cato's hatred of Caesar could not obscure his admiration of the man as a warrior The loyalties and the treachuries show through in the main characters. I must admit I got a bit bored with sea journey to Africa and the multiple marriages and alignments of lovers sometimes left me bewildered but the sea scenes were necessary to place the armies and McCullough had no control over the laiasons! This was a gift for my son. I have not read the book, but he wanted it. I will not be reading this book so I cannot comment on the book nor write a review. But I am sure my son will love it, because he is fascinated by Rome.
