    A MUST SEE FILM!

    Although the film minimizes the cruelties and sadistic nature by white plantation owners and their over-seers, this film shows with dignity the struggles of a free black abolishionist abducted and sold into slavery. Brooks is outstanding as the lead character and John Saxon as his jealous master both fighting for the affection of a beautiful female slave. I first saw this film several years ago on public television. I think every school should embrace this film depicting how African Americans were dehumanized and treated less than chattle particularly during this period of our great country's history. Even after all the white man's aggression, supression and forced submission, we can see just how resiliant African Americans are.

    It's better than the remake

    I found the remake of this movie boring. I don't understand the hype. But this one is so good. Never touch the original. This is the best version of the book. I love this movie.

    The Original movie "Twelve Years A slave" with Avery Brooks is Great...

    This is a great movie. anyone that has seen or plans to watch the 2013 version of "Twelve Years A Slave" should see this movie. It is much better written, it also addresses what was going on at home with the family while Solomon was missing. Who was looking and why thet did not give-up and assume that he was dead..Avery Brooks Does The Damn Thing In THis Movie.
