About this product

Product Information

Combining the stealth, tactics, and action popularized in both the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon franchises, Splinter Cell represents a new Tom Clancy series featuring a single character instead of the team-oriented play found in Red Storm's successful squad-based shooter games. The title alludes to the secret organization players are part of, an offshoot of the NSA called Third Echelon, whose members rigorously serve to protect America using whatever means necessary.

Players embark on a series of ten missions to eliminate potential security threats by covertly infiltrating and destroying the data and communications critical to cyber-terrorist operations. The lead character, Sam Fisher, must conduct his missions without being detected, or risk being disavowed by his agency and left to his own devices. A key feature in the game is a horizontal stealth meter, which changes according to Fisher's overall visibility within a level. Players must stick close to shadows, avoid light, and move silently or else patrolling guards will sound the alarms and attack.

For the PlayStation 2 version of the game, the developers refined a number of areas based on recommendations received from players of the Xbox title. When infiltrating an enemy compound, for example, players will immediately know when an alarm has been sounded thanks to an onscreen indicator absent from the Xbox game. Players will also have immediate access to security door codes, rather than having to go through multiple menu screens to retrieve the data. The most important addition is a new four-level mission set within a power plant during a snowstorm, upping the total number of missions to ten. New cut-scenes, a redesigned introduction, a snowsuit outfit, and a few surprise gadgets are also featured.

Each of the ten missions begins with a cut-scene detailing the story in a CNN-like news report. Players will receive their objectives via voice communication during the game and can refer to their wrist-mounted Palm computer for notes and details on their mission. Data such as door codes can be downloaded from terminals located within the region or on guards, and additional gadgets such as sticky cameras, gas grenades, lock picks, laser microphones, a night vision headset, and wall mines can be used to help. More items are available for specific missions, ranging from infiltrating the CIA to exploring a police station, Chinese Embassy, Georgian Defense Ministry, and more.

  • great game. not for every one.

I think that this game is great but I do not think that it is for every one.this game is pretty much all stealth.its also a extremely changing strategy game.so I recomend the game if you dont like stealth or strategy games.but if you like stealth and strategies games this is for you! this game is stealth at its finest. you will play as sam fisher. you will have to stealth around security guards, camares, civilians and much much more.in this game you dont always go undetected either.sneek up behind guards and grab them and get information before you knock them out.also use many gadgets like grappling hooks, night vision goggles, lock picks and much more. i love this game and think its great but just remember its not for every one.

  • Splinter Cell, Stealth Action Redefined

Splinter Cell, as the title says, is Stealth Action Redefined. the first time I ever played it was with my PC, and I beat the whole game in a week. then around a year later I got my Console and the game a week later. the only drawback with this game is it's single player, although they have added it for the new titles. the graphics are awesome, Story Lines Great, and the in between level movies are pretty good. get one today, all it costs is $5!

  • Splinter Cell (Game #1) for PS2

The first game of the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series has a very good story line. Although the controls are limited compared to the later games, overall it gets the job done. For instance, in the first game, Sam Fisher can't whistle to draw the attention of a nearby enemy. In addition, Sam Fisher can't open a door while carry a body over his shoulders; i.e., Sam has to lay the body down, open the door, and then pick the body back up to enter. This game needs to be played a few times before a player learns all the neat tricks and all the arsenals that Sam Fisher can use with his rifle. Be patient.

  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (Playstation 2)

This game is so realistic, the graphics are excellent. You have to infiltrate the embassy, as well as other intense missions. You can shoot out the lights when you approach an area that's well lit; put on your night vision goggles and sneak around without anyone seeing you. You can attack the enemy without them knowing what hit them. This game is so intense, and so realistic it's like you're really there. This is an Excellent game... you won't be dissappointed at all. This is a definate to put on your buying list!!!!

  • The 1st game(title) of great game series

I probably should have rated this game as 'excellent' but being that it was the 1st game of its series I will say there was place for improvment, a goal that this game's makers DEFINITELY reached with the folowing titles(Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory which btw are beyond excellent) This game is nevertheless amazing. Great graphics and storyline. One of the best, if not the best, 'stealth-based games I have ever played.
