  • Academ's Fury by Jim Butcher (2006)

High adventure. Political intrigue. Hideous monsters. Earth, Wind, Fire and Water Furies. Incredible cliffhangers and miraculous escapes. All of these and more can be found in Academ’s Fury by Jim Butcher. The second volume of the Codex Alera fantasy/adventure series, this book can also stand on its own merits. Perhaps better known for his Dresden Files series, Butcher has demonstrated writing excellence at a level with old masters Tolkein and Turtledove, as well as newer authors such as Stirling, Goodkind and Hobb, deftly juggling several major characters and plot lines with no drop-off in the action. But be warned: The battle scenes here are very graphic and bloody. Once past those, though, I found myself turning pages at a rapid rate to find out what happened next. This book ...

  • Academe's Fury

I first found Jim Butcher by reading the Harry Dresden series, which I love. I have read and re-read them. When I went to Butcher's web site, I also found out he wrote/is writing the Codex Alera series. Academe's Fury is the second of these books. I like this book because it catches and holds my interest, and is very difficult to put down. It is epic fantasy in the realm of J. R. R. Tolkien. The characters are very believeable, and the action is non-stop. Only in Tolkien have I found battle descriptions as descriptive and exciting as the ones in these books. The characters are very well defined, and believable. Although the book can be read on its own, I recommend that it be read as part of the Codex Alera series, beginning with the Furies of Calderon. The only problems I have ...

  • Best series

This will be the third time I’ve read the Codex Alera series

  • Good Stuff

I bought this book to continue the series and it was well worth it. It was very entertaining and my wife and I got pulled into the complex and riveting story very quickly. Jim Butcher does seem to have a thing for bullies, much like Orson Scott Card's Ender's game series, we will see if the trend continues.

  • Cool Book

This is book 2 of the series Codex of Alera. It builds a great platform for the stories to come.. Really enjoyed it!
