What a surprising read!
I hate to echo the previous reviewer, but that was my experience with this book as well. I picked it up to get insight into the "problem" that I had seen in many of the men that I dated, why were they all so commitment-phobic? Well, I quickly found out that I had my own looming commitment issues. The book is divided into 2 sections: "Active runners" and "Passive avoiders". Active runners are the classic commitmentphobes we all think about: the guy who flits from woman to woman, never settling down, the classic bachelor, "don't cramp my style". Passive avoiders (like me) really "want" to be in relationships, but we get hung up on finding that "perfect" relationship, and are really so scared of commitment that we focus on partners who cannot actually meet our needs, or who are emotionally or ... The book can get a little clinical sometimes with case studies so I gave it only a "good" rating, but what I liked best was how the final chapters offered real advice and solutions for dealing with both types of commitment issues. I highly recommend this book for anyone who either thinks they have a problem, or thinks "other people" only have the problem.

The perspective is eye opening even for the avid relationship analyst. He's Scared, She Scared explains your behaviors as well as his and why and how you may be helping push love away, it creates an awareness to help you to stop doing that. Further thoughts might evoke the realization that the cycle of communication that is not happening, the need for respect to be given to him and love to be given to her, that is not occurring is because he needs respect in order to give love and you need love in order to give respect, this is where one must.... (Emerson Love & Respect) This book coupled with When he's Married to Mom by K. Adams enables a gentle approach to understanding a man with anger who womanizes and the uphill battle he fights to find his identity that was lost in enmeshment with ... The little signs that you see are all apart of what he struggles with. His womanizing so he can remain dependent on mom and his role playing with many women like he did with mom as a child. The Surrendered Single gives additional room for growth if you make it that far. It eases the pain of the unknown a bit without devastating your belief in the good men in the world.

So far so good!
Thought I was buying this book in order to understand my boyfriend who admittedly has commitment issues. A few pages into the first chapter I realize that he isn't the ONLY one with issues! Yikes! Always suspected that there was a reason that I ended up in the kind of relationships I end up in, just never explored deeply enough to fully realize that there was probably a reason I was choosing all of these people throughout my life. I'm only knee deep in it so far but I feel confident, based on how well written and helpful the book has been already, that I will walk away with some very profound insight into myself... oh yeah, and into my boyfriend!Thought I was buying this book in order to understand my boyfriend who admittedly has commitment issues. He's Scared, She's Scared
If you can handle the truth about your relationship troubles this is a book to read. Admitting your problems is very tough but correcting them is even tougher. I have read all of his books on commitment phobia and they all are helpful, however this was the most informative and thought provoking of them. I would loan it to a friend only if they promised to give it back. It is well worth buying.
