About this product

Product Information

The classic collaboration from the internationally bestselling authors Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, now an original series starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant. " Good Omens . . . is something like what would have happened if Thomas Pynchon, Tom Robbins and Don DeLillo had collaborated. Lots of literary inventiveness in the plotting and chunks of very good writing and characterization. It's a wow. It would make one hell of a movie. Or a heavenly one. Take your pick."-- Washington Post According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter , Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon--both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle--are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

One of the best books ever! Superlatively Better than TV Version

I have read this book many times and each time it is just as funny and entertaining as the first time I read it. God and the Devil Decide this is it! Send down instructions to their chief demon and chief angel on earth who decide, "No way can we allow this happen". Their pursuits in preventing Armageddon are akin to the "gang who couldn't shoot straight"". Hysterical and funny. Amazon did a tv series on it and turned into a buddy brofest movie - which distorted the book. Read the book first and then ignore the tv program!

  • Good Omens by Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett (2006)

In itself that is enough but for those who want a little more, then all I can say is that this is truly a remarkable book. If fantasy is your thing you will like it, no matter what sort you usually go for. Fans of Pratchett will love it for the wacky humor and off the wall ideas. Gaiman fans will adore the darker twists in the tail and almost tangible word-painting that characterises his work. The plot may not sound startling original - Armageddon comes to Earth and is humorously foiled (think Matthew Thomas, Robert Rankin etc.) - but the two central characters are works of genius. A demon and an angel who have both 'gone soft' through spending too long on Earth in the the company of humans. (I do wonder if there was a little autobiographical content there with Gaiman's ...

  • This has become a favorite book Classic wit Great

I borrowed this book from a friend at work. I have never really been a fan of the fantasty type books and was skeptical. But,I needed something to read and I had already read "The Anansi Boys", which I loved. That said, this is the BEST BOOK! Neil Gaiman has earned my devotion with his incredibly intelligent and quirky style. He mixes the dry and understated british humor with his own highly-evolved sense of the absurd. The entire book made me laugh out loud , which is no small feat. I have since read everything I can find of Gaiman's. Unfortunately, this is the only thing I've read from Terry Pratchet, thereby limiting my opinion of his efforts. If this book is any indication of his body of work, however, I salute him. I reccommend it to all age groups, ...

  • One of my all time favorite books

This book is extremely well written and is always good for a laugh. Gaimen's stories have a tendency to be a little dark, but are always amazingly well told. Pratchett tells a very funny story, but his books often jump around a bit. Combining the two you end up with a fantastic and funny story that flows smoothly from beginning to end. If you like either of these authors, I strongly recommend this book. If you have never read either, this is a good place to start!

  • Used but in Fantastic shape!

This is an incredible book and was in great shape, for a used book! I'd already read it before buying it, but I didn't have my own copy. The copy I got did not disappoint. Highly recommend!!
