Reviews
"Clever story...Fans of both characters will be pleased." -- Booklist "A gripping tale that's easily one of [Jance's] best." -- Publishers Weekly (starred review) "For readers who have followed Jance's characters on their separate journeys--Beaumont's from alcoholism to sobriety and Brady's into marriage and motherhood--the much-heralded reunion is surely a treat." -- Washington Post, Jance beautifully evokes the desert and towns of her beloved southwest as well as the strong individuals who live there., As always, Jance smoothly solves Joanna's professional and personal problems in a credible and entertaining fashion., As always, Jance paints a vibrant picture, creating characters so real you want to reach out and hug -- or strangle -- them. The dialogue always rings true, and the cases unravel in an interesting, yet never contrived way., Jance readers....will not only enjoy the trip to Bisbee--but also a front-row seat at the wedding of the lady cop with the heart of gold., For readers who have followed Jance's characters on their separate journeys-Beaumont's from alcoholism to sobriety and Brady's into marriage and motherhood-the much-heralded reunion is surely a treat., A top-notch story, drawing readers in the world of an Arizona law enforcement officer, who must juggle her job and her personal life while awaiting the birth of her second child. Jance excels in her portrayal of how people cope with life., For readers who have followed Jance's characters on their separate journeys--Beaumont's from alcoholism to sobriety and Brady's into marriage and motherhood--the much-heralded reunion is surely a treat., J.A. Jance brings to life the desert communities of the Southwest in such a vivid manner as to make readers feel as if they are visiting Cochise County., A mighty fine puzzle. . . A page-turner, Dead to Rights, moves along briskly right up to its dramatic end., A solid installment in a worthy series. The Arizona desert plays an unforgettable part in this atmospheric tale, The best thing in J.A. Jance's books . . . is the way she can move from an exciting, dangerous scene on one page to a sensitive, personal, touching moment on the next.

I read this book within 48 hours of receiving it. As mentioned in the prior review, there are some "loose threads" in the book. I am not as concerned as, in the past, the "loose threads" are often covered by a subsequent book. Ms. Jance responded very graciously when I pointed them out. Unfortunately, the "loose threads" make the book more realistic. You will not realize what I am referring to until you read the book. I am keeping my copy.

i really loved this book. i bought it to add to my collection of j.a. jance novels. i'm getting ready to purchase the other novels of hers that i don't own yet. i will also try to get them off ebay because of the great deals. i got fire and ice in hardback brand new for a lot less than i could have at any store. J.A. Jance is an excellent author and i haven't found a book of hers yet that i don't like. I hope she continues to write and with each new book i will be sure to add it to my collection.

  • Fire & Ice by J A Jance

Ebay wants to know why I bought this book. I bought it because I love the Joanna Brady series. My mother-in-law was born in Bisbee, AZ, and not only is this series set in Bisbee, but each includes at the very least a little snippet of the mining history of the area. The heroine, Joanna Brady Dixon, is quite believable and, like most of us do or have done, juggles a job with family. This particular book reunites Joanna with the hero of Jance's other series of mysteries, J P Beaumont. They had met before, but that is another title. The book was entertaining, extremely "page-turning," and had quite a few "a-ha" moments. Don't you just love those moments? Jance's books are not James Patterson quick, but interest never flags, and the stories are always well crafted. If you haven't met ...

  • ANOTHER GREAT J.A. JANCE NOVEL

I've never read a Jance book that I didn't really like and I've read all of them except most of the Beaumont books which I plan to do shortly. Beaumond and Brady are unknowingly working on the same case and they communicate but only actually see each other for a very brief time. The book goes back and forth between the crime scenes in Seattle and Bisbee and updates us on Brady and Beaumonts lives. Great read.

  • Fire and Ice by J.A. Jance

I have Been a big fan of J.A. Jance for years, and wait not so patiently for the next installment of J.P. Beaumont and Joanna Brady. I was disappointed in this book. The story felt unfinished. I am used to full resolution in her cases, but felt that this time, she just didn't close it. I enjoyed the characters, as always, just not the way the story line played out.
