About this product

Product Information

In Dungeon Siege II players return to land of Aranna, to take the role of a simple mercenary who is forced to take up arms for a higher cause -- the defense of humanity itself. This hero may eventually be joined by up to five other adventurers. Together, the party travels the land to save it from an almost certain doom. Players have more choices as they develop their characters in the sequel, choosing from a selection of new hero powers instead of automatically building up the most-used skills. These new abilities are designed to give them a fighting chance against the sequel's more powerful enemies, which are directed by improved artificial intelligence. Many other favorite features from the original are reprised and enhanced in Dungeon Siege II as well. The pack mule is once again available, to help heroes haul their loot, but the party can also choose from other available support creatures, both magical and mundane, each offering distinct benefits.

The plot of Dungeon Siege II involves legends of an ancient time, when primordial magic was first unleashed in the world, through a deadly struggle between old, near-forgotten gods. Now it seems that an heir to these old gods is awakening, and soon may reclaim the errant magic of the world for itself, using it to destroy any who would stand in the way of its conquest. Storytelling elements are more prominent in the sequel, as player characters encounter lore-laden NPCs, important landmarks, and many other opportunities to learn about the culture and history of the fantasy world. However, the main focus of Dungeon Siege II remains on the efficient, fast-paced, hack-and-slash combat that won many fans for the original game.

Gas Powered Games head Chris Taylor is known for creating games that refine established playing styles while revolutionizing technical presentation. His work at Cavedog Entertainment was instrumental in producing Total Annihilation, generally considered to be the first fully 3D real-time strategy game, and Gas Powered Games' original Dungeon Siege placed familiar, Diablo-style isometric action role-playing in a 3D game world brought to life with graphics of an unrivaled quality for their time. Dungeon Siege II is intended to continue this custom. Along with the classically styled gameplay and new features it offers, the sequel runs on an advanced version of the game engine that's designed to produce contemporarily cutting-edge graphics and fluid, in-game cut scenes.

    Excellent Game

This is a classic dungeon crawler, and many orders of magnitude better than the "sequel" Dungeon Siege 3 made by Square.

  • Top critical review

    First is better

It was nice to be able to wonder around the first game while building up your character. Then you were able to wonder though the different worlds while it got tougher to slew the creatures. On Dungeon Siege ll, the game requires you to carry out all sorts of tasks. So far I have just got into the game but it does not have the draw back to the game like the first. I got excited not knowing what was around the corner on the first game, the second game is totally different. Some of the creatures that you kill in one area always return alive since the player has to return to the town center upon completing certain tasks. A new feature allows you to travel to certain spots through a worm hole; but so far the excitement is not there for me and I haven't returned to the game in a few months. ...

  • A worthy sequel

Dungeon Siege 1 was the game that got me started with RPGs, and I have been a fan of DS ever since. As such, I enjoyed DS2 as well. However, there are some aspects of this game that I didn't like too much. The save game system is odd. You can save everywhere, but it only saves what you have and what you have accomplished, not where you are. So when you re-load, you are always back to one of the 3 towns. This actually works better than one would think as it moves the game away from constant quick-saves and quick-loads. However, it does NOT work well whenever you die near a boss-battle, since you basically have to run back naked to get your gear. Not fun at all. Another aspect I didn't like is the map. DS1 had a great map, while in DS2, I constantly was lost. Backtracking to complete ...

  • good game needs some more development on specified points

The second version of a good gamecomes around again. If you like RPG games this is a good game very similar to other online games. It is very intricate and has many side quests. It's only problems are that it is no longer supported by it's original sponser, and it has limited character design. I would like to see a greater range of choices in character design. Such as hair length style color, body size shape. Also npc characters do not resolve into advantages to pick up new ones after you have spent several hours developing other characters. Why should I exchange functioning npc's for new ones when this represents a significant loss in abilities and levels. A new NPC should represent a better situation. Otherwise movement is good and environments are good and the story is ...

  • Dungeon Siege 2- worth the buy

I own and played the first Dungeon Siege, and enjoyed it. I finally decided to buy Dungeon Siege 2, and am enjoying it, probably more than the first. The story is more interesting, the characters available for play are cooler (the first I was a human, now I play a half giant), and the graphics and overall look of the game are great. The game has many side quests that get tedious after a while, I've started only doing ones that seem worthwhile- but so far it's a fun game, worth the purchase. I see Dungeon Siege 3 comes out soon, just have to make sure I don't wait years to purchase that since DS2 has been great so far.
