Product Information

Terry Dolittle (Whoopi Goldberg) is a brilliant but underappreciated data entry clerk who works for Manhattan's First National Bank under the watchful eye of her dictatorial boss Mr. Page (Peter Goetz). Terry often chats with clients via her terminal, which occasionally picks up Russian television. The tides of Terry's life turn when one day she picks up a transmission from a British spy trapped in Eastern Europe, who has the code name of Jumpin' Jack Flash; he enlists Terry's help in securing an exit contract, sending her on quirky excursions to help him escape and avoid foul play. Thus ensues a convoluted mission where Terry is on the run from the KGB, kidnapped while in a phone booth (phone booth and all), injected with a truth serum, and attempts to get a crucial message to Jack before the Russians have their way with him. She also manages to find love, get back at her boss, and do a great Mick Jagger impression to the fantastic soundtrack of music from the 60s. This is Whoopi in top form!

Whoopi's action combined with Penny's direction - cool!
We were pleased with the condition of the DVD and box, since we bought it used. The movie played flawlessly and we couldn't detect any imperfections. We were hoping for outtakes, but they evidently didn't do those with this DVD. Even so, it was fun to review the intrigue and antics in the movie.

Entertaining film about a data entry clerk working at a Manhattan bank. Terry Doolittle (Whoopi Goldberg), is sort of a rebel in as much as she is constantly running afoul of her tyrannical boss by tinkering with and repairing small computer problems herself, rather than calling the computer company, and chatting with bank customers by exchanging recipes or just exchanging pleasantries - things her boss calls unprofessional! Occasionally, the bank's network picks up a Russian exercise program that everyone seems to get a laugh from. One night, while adjusting a loose cable to her terminal, Terry receives a strange coded message from someone only identified as "Jumpin' Jack Flash"! Thinking that somebody is playing a joke on her, or her boss is just trying to trap her and fire her, she just ... Entertaining film about a data entry clerk working at a Manhattan bank. The person who sent the message tells Terry that he is a British agent who's cover has been blown and that he is on the run from KGB agents in Eastern Europe. He needs her help to go to the British embassy and give them a message. It seems that his chain of resources has been compromised by a British traitor and that he currently is "out in the cold". Not sure that this all isn't some sort of a scam, she goes to the British embassy where she is received as some sort of "nut". Embarrassed by her reception, she now feels like somebody is playing with her. When Jack contacts her again, she tells him what happened and that she won't help him any more, and that she doesn't believe him. He tells her more, and cautions her that the traitor may indeed be there in the New York embassy. He pleads that she still try to help, telling her that his life is in severe jeopardy. Terry goes again to the British embassy where she is assured that there is no such person and that someone is just playing a game with her. All of a sudden, she is being followed by people and starts having all sort of "close encounters" with "spy types". She is kidnapped and drugged by the KGB while making a telephone call. Through a series of slapstick events she manages to escape from then and uncover the British traitor. Her persistence pays off and Jack is rescued. They finally meet in New Yew York City and fall in love.

Whoopi Goldberg is extremely funny, entertaining and intelligent both in her movie character and in real life. The movie begins capturing your interest and ends that way. It is filled with suspense and flows well from beginning to end. The movie shows how a person can be fully involved with others via the computer, and can really help or harm others even without actually having met them in person. After seeing this movie on TV, I just had to purchase it. because it was so good, full of suspense,funny and a heart-warming romance movie. Whoopi Goldberg was superb in her role as a computer operator at a bank who one day received a distress signal on her computer while at work, from a British spy that was stranded in Eastern Europe and whose life was in danger and needed a safe way home. ... She not only responded favorably to the message and cry for help (even though not ever having seen the spy before (until the ending of the movie) but she also put her own life on the line, getting involved with many dangerous rescue efforts that could have cost both of their lives; some were not so lucky. Finally at the end of the movie, he surprised her with a visit to her job, at which time they began a most heartwarming, romantic relationship. There is nothing that I did not like about this movie. It is good whether on vhs or dvd. You will not be disappointed.

If you enjoy some hysterical laughter, this one's for U
Whether you are a fan of Whoopie or not, you won't be able to hold back the tears of laughter throughout this entire movie. One of her best performances. The expressions, the lines, the scenes... one funnier than the next. I found myself bent over holding my stomach with tears in my eyes laughing at certain scenes that were way over the top with comedy. Her deliverance made all the difference. I had watched this movie a few years back and then again lately, which the second viewing made me go out and buy it. This time I watched it in its entirety without any interruption, heard every hysterical line and watched every hysterical scene from beginning to end. That's the way to watch this movie... then you'll laugh harder and harder as the movie unfolds. I might add that I am normally ...
