Title in red and black. Binding "A" with 4 stars on spine. 12mo 7 1/2 x 5 inches.373 pages incl index, adverts at front and rear endpapers. Original publisher's brown cloth binding. Moderate wear to edges/corner and soiling to covers, spine lightly sunned but gilt text still good. Spine tips lightly fraying. Light pencil marks to front pastedown, POS to half-title and later owner stamp to title (why???). Engraved title present. 8 illustrations by Andrew Filmer with tissue guards, complete as called for. Contents generally clean, uniform light toning, some light foxing. Binding sound, hinges good, gutters untorn. Some gatherings a little loose though, one gathering at p.225 quite loose (see pic) but nothing detached. Textblock a bit shaken due to the few loose gatherings. Front ads on "Works of Permanent Value", rear ads on "Poetry and the Drama" and "School Books." Handsome copy, very good.”
