About this product

Product Information

Originally published in 1978, Webb's classic novel of the Vietnam War follows three soldiers from different worlds who are plunged into a white-hot murderous realm of jungle warfare as it was fought by one Marine platoon in the An Hoa Basin in 1969. In the heat and horror of battle, they took on new identities, took on each other, and were each reborn in the fields of fire.

  • Fields of Fire by James Webb (2001)

After reading a feature article in Parade magazine about Senator James Webb of Virginia, I purchased his book with the idea of reading it on vacation. When the book arrived I was excited to learn it was written about events in a specific place in Vietnam . . . The An Hoa Basin. I served in this area and am very familiar with the all of the places, “The Arizona Valley,” “Liberty Bridge,” “Dodge City.” Collectively, this is where the enemy lived and was hard-core duty for the grunts. In my opinion this book is an American masterpiece on par with Hemmingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls, or A Farewell to Arms.
