Although the processors were not shipped properly in antistatic bag for computer parts, and both used processors were packaged together in styrofoam wrapping and bubble wrap, seller was very communicative and apologized and took accountability. Very friendly and even searched for a viable replacement. Very good customer service.

    Best bang for the buck

This is a great CPU. I replaced a Xeon X5670 with one of these and went from 4.2GHz to 4.5GHz. With that sort of OC on 6 cores, these hold their own against 6th and 7th Gen I7s, plus you have triple channel memory. These 1st gen, X58 setups may be the best bang for you buck right now. These can easily keep up with a GTX 1070 GPU and play games on max. Used to be good boards were really expensive, but prices are dropping. If you need to get a board, be sure it has USB 3.0 and SATA III, especially the SATA III. That will let you run a SATA III SSD as your system drive. In Cinebench R15 the CPU managed a multi-core score of 1013, which puts it in the same range as a the i7-7700K 8 thread cpu, as well as the i7-4930K and i7-5820K 12 thread cpus. In PC Mark 8 it scored a 4549 (81st percentile) ...

  • 2009 MacPro 12 Upgrade Process

You will see people say to not Delid the CPU's, but rather use the Washers and Thermal Pad to make up for the excess heights. I have done 4 of these so far, and have helped over 10 people do the upgrade, all of them used my recommendation using the Vice Method, which is so easy its insane, and no, you'd have to be an idiot to screw it up. The HeadSpreader is soldered on to the CPU, and no, you Can't remove it with an exact knife. You can google the vice method, and see what that means. Honestly I was nervous when I decided to roll the dice and give it a try, after, no way I'd recommend any other way. Too many potential issues down the road with the spacer method. The price for these is a very good price, don't waste money paying someone for the Delidded CPU's, you can do it in less ...

  • 5 stars generally, 4 stars for Mac Pro: special care needed if you're upgrading a Mac Pro tower (4,1 or 5,1)

Mac Pro towers have by default de-lidded cpus, done by Apple to make things More Difficult. To upgrade you either need to delid your upgraded processors, or do some tricky adjusting of the thermal sensor connector on the heat sink (see youtube for some good videos on that). Do NOT try to delid these processors - many forums/youtubers say they're glued on and can be delidded using razors. WRONG. These are soldered and you'll just break them if you try. So adjust your heat sink connectors carefully instead and you'll have a very very fast Mac Pro.

  • The most cost effect way to upgrade your Mac Pro.

If your considering upgrading your 2010 - 2012 Mac pro the X5680 is the most cost effective way. Two of these matched average cost is around $100. Sometimes you can even find them for about $85 a pair. The maximum size you can install in 3.46 GHz but the price would be double the cost for processor and the speed difference would barley be noticed. If your doing a 2009 you would need to find them delidded. If you want to save about $150 go with the X5680

  • Good CPU chip for dual CPU Mac Pro 2009, flashed from 4,1 to 5,1

Very easy to install. The user should get extra tool and thermal paste since this product does not provide any of that, just a pair of x5680 de-lid CPUs suitable for MacPro 2009.
