Great inspiration for read aloud
I am a homeschool mom and have been reading aloud for many years, but this book helped me remember why we do it. It is encouraging and inspires parents to slow down and enjoy a good book because there are lasting benefits.

Honey for a Child's Heart
As my children grew as readers, it became obvious that I wouldn't be able to pre-read everything they wanted to read, but I also know that there is a lot of junk out there in children's books that I want my children to avoid. Honey for a Child's Heart is a wonderful resource that helps me to point my children to classic literature that will not be offensive to our family. The annotated bibliography describes the books, listing the plots, themes, and what is wonderful about each book. If there are elements of the book that Christian parents may consider questionable or offensive, the author notes that, as well. The bibliography section lists books by the age of the children, from board books, picture books, Easy Readers, to chapter books. I had been using my local ... I'll use it for years!
The first half of the book is great! It's full of ideas for enjoying literature with your children. The second half, though, is pure gold; it's full of lists of quality children's books, organized by age. Before I found this book, I felt lost in the library when trying to find good books for my son. There's so much useless junk out there! But now I take Honey for a Child's Heart with me and I know just what to look for! This book is written from a Christian perspective, but it would definately be useful for non-Christians as well. The books Hunt recommends are not purely "Christian," but those that teach good values or are just plain fun! I can't recommend this book highly enough! Wonderful book for parents
I love this book and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to have a good basic idea and then some of great books to read to your kids. I home school two boys and thought...eh, I will try the book. I absolutely love it. Not only is there a listing of wonderful books, but the author also explains the classics and why it is so important to not buy books that have been in my own words "dumbed down". To give you an idea, take the movie "The Little Mermaid" the movie and the Disney book are not the same as the original classic. This book explains how wonderful it is for kids to read and imagine with their minds what the books have in them. Kids need to read see (in print) and hear the wonderful words that so many books out there have...not just the classics. The author not only shows you ... This is a wonderful guide for choosing worthy, well written and engaging books to read to your children as well as lists for them to read as they become readers. The suggestions are insightful and sweet, and lots of worthy reading for parents as well, encouraging and uplifting!
