    Gift for son

    Having purchased a video and another title by Richard Raffan, I was looking to enhance my son's knowledge of wood turning techniques. Having purchased him a wood lathe for Christmas, he has enjoyed creating a variety of projects utilizing Richard Raffan's recommendations. Though he has been learning the proper use and technique of wood turning during his senior year in high school, he has already told me he has adapted some of the techniques that are on the video tape. Hoping this book will be equally as informative as the other items books we have purchased by the author. Certainly purchasing it for 1/2 the published price made the deal even sweeter!

    An excellent book from a truly expert teacher.

    Richard Raffan's books are some of the best books I have ever read on woodturning. In this book he covers the use of wood lathes and turning tools to create a variety of lidded boxes. Turned boxes are cylindrical in shape, versus square, but very very cool and clever. There are tons of various options. In this book his photos and drawings are excellent and serve to very clearly illustrate the ideas presented in his books. There is just so much information regarding box creation. His threaded lid boxes are a serious fascination for me. Raffan has the most amazing ability to anticipate the kinds questions that I would ask and answers them as though you had directly asked him.     Brilliant book by a brilliant individual

    Richard Raffan is a superstar in my book. I have been turning wood for only two years but reading his book will advance me many years. I watch him regularly on You Tube as well

    Worth Reading

    Raffan's stuff is always good. I particularly like "Turning Boxes" because he spends alot of time on shapes, profile and detailing, in a general way to make you think about the overall end result. For a novice turner you can learn alot here. I own several of his books, and have watched several of his videos, and recommend them, as you can always learn something new.
