this series of books were for my grandson he has read all but one and will use for book reports for school. His Pop is also reading these too.

Excellent Series -- For Children and Adults both
The series is excellent, easy enough for a child to read (one who's up for chapter books), but with enough hidden symbolism to catch the imagination of an adult as well. It follows a family through a fantastic world on various adventures to fight evil, protect their friends, and discover new parts of their new world. Very creative and imaginative, and a continuous story. Also, you can read 1-7 or you read book 2, 4, 5, 7 without getting lost or noting that you missed a great part of the story line. Definitely classics, though their age hasn't taken anything from the story. Having the whole set together like this is very convenient as you start in order -- people often skip the Magician's Nephew as the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the most well known of the series -- though, ... Don't judge a book by its movie...GREAT SERIES!
I really wanted the movie to be great - had looked forward to it for a year before its release. It lacked character development and good story telling. The books are by far, much better. With the first book, The Magician's Nephew, Lewis creates wonderful possibilities with a magical way to travel from one world to the next, and with great character development in Aslan the lion, a king of kings. The way of travel in the first book is not repeated throughout the other six books in the series and thus, the only worlds visited in the remaining books are our own world and that of Narnia. The series is a great read for early readers because it is easy to read and the story compels one to continue reading to find out what happens next. Each book can be read in a day if not disturbed by cats, kids, phone, work... maybe a book a week for young readers. Just the kind of style a 3rd to 6th grader could REALLY get in to, (I'm late 30's and I was HOOKED!) Have yet to see a good movie based on this series.

I was a 3rd and 4th grade teacher for many years and I read this entire series aloud every year for many years and still have to find a child who did not like this series. The writing of C S Lewis reflects his Christian beliefs although most children do not understand that the lion represents God until this is pointed out to them. This will certainly help increase the vocabulary of the children who read this series although I must say that I had vocabulary lists for each chapter and went over this before actually reading the stories. I love these books!
I bought these books as a gift for a child. I read them with my daughters when they were young and was sad when we got to the end. Thought provoking and entertaining, they teach character through the adventures of the children without being cheesy or preachy. CS Lewis was a great and creative mind.
