Fun Characters and colours to engage children to talk about the content. Allows the reader to ask the listener to make their own sounds and silly characters. Just a fun book.

A great book to gain the interest of a toddler* & hold it when chanted/sung
This is my 20 month olds favorite book. We only had it less than 2 week before I had it memorized from reading it to her so often and SHE has many parts memorized too, chiming in with me as I "read" it. I say "read" it because I kind of more sing or chant it. It has a great rhythm with all the rhyming and the tooting of the train whistle (which we add in more often because it is so much fun). This book is right up there with Going to the Zoo by Tom Paxton and My Truck is Stuck (also) by Kevin Lewis. Both of these book my toddler has sat through with HIGH interest since she was only about 10 months old; often bring the books and shoving them into my lap to "read" them to her. Going to the Zoo and My Truck is Stuck are both books my eight year old LOVED just as much as a toddler and young ... This is my 20 month olds favorite book. Such books draw children into the story sooner and build a love for books and reading. Both my girls have/had an unusually long attention span for listening (starting at a very young age) and I believe that is due to gaining their attention and holding it with books like these at a very young age. My 8 year old scored in the 99% percentile on the national standardized ITBS test for her age and this I believe is due to gaining and holding her interest in listening to stories read aloud to her all through her life thus far! Start with great books like these and keep reading to your children (even if you have to rely more and more on audio books as they get older). *defining toddler by when they start walking (both mine walked at 9 months)

Get to be a train or a truck!!!
Fun for little boys and girls alike. In Chugga, Chugga, Choo Choo, the train goes over the bridge, and through the tunnel...Whoo Whoo! In my truck is stuck, immerse yourself in the ways to get out of being stuck. Shout the sounds. Both books are a great way to get even the youngest children involved.
