Two classics that started the series.

Talk about going back in time! The two T.V. movies that later started the series. Darren McGavin as Kolchack at his best. The Night Stalker(1971)about a reporter after a vampire in Las Vegas. The trials and tribulations involved are classic. The Night Strangler(1972) where Kolchack has to go after a madman dating back to the American Civil War, and whose hunting ground is Seattle. Very enjoyable for the era. I vaguely remember being a kid seeing the series(1974-75), and getting a fright now and then. I am very pleased to have added this particular double feature to my collection.

    Not Bad, but not great

These movies introduced the character of Karl Kolchak. This was the predecessor of the series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker". These television movies are not great cinema, but are entertaining. The characters are engaging but they do not create an lasting impression. These shows are a great introduction to the series that followed.

  • Just the beginning

Carl Kolchak made his debut here in these two made-for-TV movies that first aired before the TV series. The first movie "The Night Stalker" aired in 1972 and had the highest ratings for a TV movie of it's time. It was so popular the it spawned the sequel "The Night Strangler" in 1973 and then the series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" in 1974. The first movie features Carl investigating a series of Las Vegas murders were each victim had been bitten in the neck and drained of blood. Carl's often outlandish theories almost always get him in trouble with the police or his editor. Here he set out to prove the truth and discovers a modern-day vampire. "The Night Strangler" features Carl, now in Seattle, chasing a serial killer who ...

I liked this Movie when I was a Kid and I like the Night Strangler even better since I lived near Seattle at the time I saw this show aired I always wanted to check out the Seattle Underground. Those two movies were mande for T.V. A reporter find spooky going ons and Government officials try to cover it up. Sound familier? Those cheap made for T.V. movies of the week were well done and aired pior before WaterGate. I ordered My first dvd for about $12.00. Sadly I misplaced it and now it's going for 20 to 40 dollars. I always knew it was good, but other people buying it for that amount with no complaints. Not bad for a T.V. movie that aired in 1972. You won't find other moives been charged that amount. Word gotten around how good it is. I could tell you more but I do not want to give away ...

  • The Night Stalker, The ? Night Strangler

I have always love this series!!! I hated that it was ever canceled. The first movie, I had already seen, but the second was even better than the first! If you are looking for old fashioned ghouley entertainment, you need look no further. Comedy and horror walk hand in hand as Kolchek Looks for a murderer who never dies. He has existed since the Civil War by drinking an "eternal youth" potion. The main ingredient in this potion is none other than "Human Blood"! Join Kolcheck, ace reporter, as he steps on toes, risks his life, and pokes his nose into everyones business to get the story.
