Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar is a video game and the second entry into the Thunder Force series for the Sega Genesis gaming system. The classic video game features a side scrolling first person shooter perspective and is played over ten stages. Each futuristic stage is uniquely themed and has both a mini boss and a main boss creature that must be defeated in order to advance in the game. Players can collect different weapons and power ups to enhance the game play. The game itself is rare since it is played on the now discontinued Sega Genesis gaming system.

    Best shooting game ever made for the Genesis game console

    There is simply nothing wrong about it. Even the music is awesome and original. Fast, great graphics, tough but not R-Type tough and addictive. Weapons are well balanced and the over all experience is beautiful. Atmosphere is beyond cool and the whole game seems ahead of its time and it uses the limited Genesis' system resources beautifully.

    Amazing, genre defining horizontal shooter from 1992. The gameplay, graphics, and music will subvert your expectations on what to expect from a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis game. If you're a Sega fan, even if you don't usually play horizontal shooters, you must try this masterpiece.

    One of the better Genesis shoot'em ups out there

    I enjoyed the Thunderforce series on the Genesis. Really, I enjoyed Thunderforce III, so when I saw Lightening Force at a pawn shop years back, I thought the it had a connection with the Thunder series so I picked it up. It is actually the fourth game in the series and I would say the best despite being a lesser known title. Lightening Force had some of the best graphics available on the Genesis. The worlds were methodically detailed and the special effects of the weapons available were incredible. The music gave it a space opera feel, much like the Gradius series on the NES and SNES. Of the all the Thunderforce games on the Genesis, Lightening Force had the most refined game play. The ship didn't feel like moving a bathtub like in Thunderforce II and it didn't feel twitchy like in ...

    Great SHMUP

    Remember this game from my childhood. It was a great pick. Wonderful music for a 16-bit game. Very difficult. A+Start for the options menu. Classic game. Must have for horizontal shooter fans.
