About this product

Product Information

Where the Red Fern Grows is a beloved classic that captures the powerful bond between man and man's best friend. This edition also includes a special note to readers from Newbery Medal winner and Printz Honor winner Clare Vanderpool. Billy has long dreamt of owning not one, but two, dogs. So when he's finally able to save up enough money for two pups to call his own--Old Dan and Little Ann--he's ecstatic. It doesn't matter that times are tough; together they'll roam the hills of the Ozarks. Soon Billy and his hounds become the finest hunting team in the valley. Stories of their great achievements spread throughout the region, and the combination of Old Dan's brawn, Little Ann's brains, and Billy's sheer will seems unbeatable. But tragedy awaits these determined hunters--now friends--and Billy learns that hope can grow out of despair, and that the seeds of the future can come from the scars of the past. • Where The Red Fern Grows

This is an inspiring story about a young boy's endeavor see his dreams become reality. Even through a war's brought hard times, Billy earned all he needed to purchase two hound pups. Billy's character is full of devotion, hardwork, love, commitment and all the lessons that go along with a young boy from the Ozark's growing into a youth during a world war and a financial strapped country. Times were tough, Billy was tougher. Unique is the way a father and grandfather find admiration for a youth whom they have allowed to make his own decisions and let him experience the consequences, good and bad. Anyone wanting to understand that life is about honesty, relationships and living will enjoy Wilson Rawls' development of a boy and his love and care of his dogs. Refreshing read about someone ...

  • wondsrful story!

One of the most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. A very nice Almish gentleman told me about the book. I'm glad I listened to him! As I neared the end of the book, I wished it would go on longer.

  • An American classic

Great work of literature and a story that will move you to laugh and cry. Too much for my elementary students as the book is much more intense and graphic than either one of the movies made about the book.
