  • Meg Foster as Hester Prinn - absolute perfection

I had been wanting to see this movie again since watching it in 1980 High School English class. I was riveted to the story, found the secret romance to Hester Prynne and her secret love well played. I was captivated by Meg Foster's eyes and could understand why people feared her, and she was lovely and kind so eventually the people truly liked her. The story has so many things going on, all tagging and pulling at one or more character at a time. It was also fantastic to once again see the Scarlet Letter played with decent actors who were able to bring the story to life and drag its audience in - unlike other remakes that came after... terrible. When I saw Meg Foster on The Originals TV show for a few episodes, it reminded me of my love for the scarlet letter so I ordered it. It ...

  • Beautiful screen adaptation of a timeless classic

We read The Scarlet Letter in my 10th grade homeschool this year and wanted a faithful visual representation of the book to make a comparison. Without a doubt, this is the finest adaptation out there. Hawthorne would be very proud of how the actors, directors, and producers of this film treated his classic tale. We loved this movie. Meg Foster and John Heard were the quintessential Hester Prynne and Arthur Dimmesdale. No Hollywood garbage here; just pure art.

  • Awesome version of this classic story that sticks to Hawthorne's plot

This is a four part Masterpiece Theater presentation and it is excellent. The film maker sticks to the actual plot (which is not true of any other SL movie) and even uses Hawthorne's wording much of the time. My students were captivated by the story and the acting.

  • Great for High School Classrooms

I used this DVD for my high school students. It is very true to the novel. They really enjoyed seeing the story come alive after they finished reading it. I highly recommend this version of "The Scarlet Letter" for classroom sitting.

  • Scarlet Letter

This version of the Scarlet Letter is excellent for use at school. It is true to the original novel and helps my students understand the complex language of Hawthorne.
