Good Movie
This a good Western movie with a creditable story line away from the traditional ie: "Are calling me a cheat, then Bang Bang" typical western. I'm not a big James Stewart fan, but he does a great job playing the Accordion and singing.I recommend for family viewing.

One of the best Westerns ever!
This is a somewhat little know Western, but in my opinion, it's one of the true classics. There are some great actors in this film, first of all. Stewart as the drifting, ex-railroad agent, Audie Murphy as his good-hearted outlaw brother, Dan Duryea, Jack Elam and others as part of the outlaw gang, Brandon deWild as a cast-off kid, helped out by Stewart throughout the film, Hugh Beaumont of Leave it to Beaver fame is even there as a railroad executive and Olive Carey plays a neat old prospector gal, who shows up off and on throughout the film and just gives the movie some style and charm. The movie isn't your typical black & white, no shades of gray Western tale, either. I mean this in the sense that every major character has nuances of personality and moral character that ... This is a somewhat little know Western, but in my opinion, it's one of the true classics. There are some great actors in this film, first of all. I mean this in the sense that every major character has nuances of personality and moral character that make them all seem very real, instead of cardboard-flat cutouts designed just to fit into good-guy/bad-guy roles. For instance, Beaumont is very antagonistic towards Stewart in the beginning of the film, showing a great deal of animosity and distrust towards Stewarts character. Yet, in one small poignant moment of the film he offers Stewart his coat before Stewart heads into the still-cold mountains to carry a railroad payroll. Even though he distrusts Stewart he still has no real ill will toward him and has no wish to see him suffer. This movie is a moral tale, but a superbly crafted one. It's simply about choosing good or choosing evil, doing the right thing or the wrong thing. And realising the impact your decisions have on others. And there are a couple of nice songs in the movie. Stewart has an accordian and plays it and sings a couple of tunes to good effect in the movie. No, he isn't all that great a singer, but he does alright and the tunes are very welcome additions to the whole package. This is great stuff and you'll be doing yourself a favor by checking it out.

I bought this originally for the music lyrics as I had already seen the movie and my local music store and music sites on the net were unable to supply neither the sheet music nor the lyrics. I've always liked Jimmie Stewart and Audie Murphy as actors seperately and together they were dynamic in this movie. I only wish they had been able to make more movies together. The story line was unusually interesting and believable.
