About this product

Product Information

Auto-da-F , Elias Canetti's only work of fiction, is a staggering achievement that puts him squarely in the ranks of major European writers such as Robert Musil and Hermann Broch. It is the story of Peter Kien, a scholarly recluse who lives among and for his great library. The destruction of Kien through the instrument of the illiterate, brutish housekeeper he marries constitutes the plot of the book. The best writers of our time have been concerned with the horror of the modern world--one thinks of Kafka, to whom Canetti has often been compared. But Auto-da-F stands as a completely original, unforgettable treatment of the modern predicament.

  • Nobody reads anymore. Unga bunga, book good.

Nobody reads these ponderous things. Frozen over his books in fear of his wife nagging him. And twenty two pages dedicated to the perfection of his frozen form. Well, if yer gonna do something, do it right. Reminds me of The Hunger Artist. Is perfection of one activity more valuable than another? Bravo old man. That will teach her. A slowmotion descent into madness written as a glorious swandive of psychadelic German circus animal trainers. I like having lots of books around. They don't eat much.

  • As promised

    Great price, great shape
