About this product

Product Information

The Kinks defied the rigid hierarchy of British society to create a new wave, and then next wave, of rock and roll. The band has stayed front and center of transatlantic rock music for an incredible three decades. Here co-founder Dave Davies reveals all-- about the band, the scene--including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Who--and his brother Ray in a painfully honest, sometimes euphoric autobiography. photo insert.

  • Even with the UFO's... It's the KINKS!!!

Even with the somewhat odd bits about communicating with ET's this book is far better than Ray Davies' pseudo-Orwellian "X-RAY" if you want to really get into the Kinks' experience. Dave Davies' account is ten times more readable, actually contains family pictures that Ray did not include in his unauthorized autobiography, and is a slightly goofy, far-out, and totally friendly read. Dave's account is fun and transparent in all of the opposite ways that Ray's was buried, then masked and cloaked, then disguised as fiction. I could barely finish "X-Ray" because it was so totally pompous and contrived. Ray is the better songwriter of the two, I think, but his book is unreadable. Too many cheap smoke-and-mirror tactics that give little ...
