  • Nice book if you like happy ending type examples.

Lots of nice happy ending type stories, but I feel more attention could have been given to the day to day details in dealing with your shy, fearful dog at home. Just taking my little sheltie out in the yard to do her "business" is an exercise in extreme patience. She focuses on every sound (cars, birds, other people, the wind) and starts or freezes. Much emphasis is placed on getting a professional trainer and my dog would probably have a heart attack if I brought her to a dog training class. Perhaps someday she will be ready for more advanced training, but I am interested in learning how to help her to trust people and to just be a happy girl, now. She is very s-l-o-w-l-y getting better, though, so I know there's hope for her.

  • Some good info to be gleamed!

I purchased this book because, as a foster parent for rescued Pugs, I took one in that didnt seem to respond to anything I tried. This poor little girl had ben used for breeding in a puppy mill, while being starved and physically abused (she has sustained so much damage, she has permanent leg damage and is blind in one eye). This book did have a few good tips for the seriously abused dog, and most of all, it reassured me, that getting a dog like this to come out of his shell, doesnt happen overnight. It can take a long time, and this gave me hope, when after a few months, I had only seen a little bit of progress.

  • Shy Dogs

If I had been able to inspect this book, first hand, I would not have purchased it since I was looking for serious solutions. This is a pleasant/feel good book that tells the stories of several dogs that did not have a good start in life, but were found by people with great hearts. It was a quick read, enjoyable but did not offer an new solutions. The solutions were the same ideas as other books I had read. No new insight or solutions.

  • Very good tips for training and helping your pooch

This is an easy-to-understand book with several good tips and ideas for living with a shy dog. It offers some good advice on how to make your doggie feel more at ease. It was very good but could have used a little more information re: adopting dogs with a history of abuse or neglect. But all in all I was quite pleased.
