Collosus A Gem Of A Film

This is a gem of a film. Made in the 1970s, of course the specifics of the technology on display is dated, (Though they got the macro elements right, even by today's standards), moreover, the premise, plot, and acting performances are great, and hold up very well. Very watchable, intelligent, and enjoyable to re-visit. Great cast, including Eric Bradden who comes across brilliantly as a genius among similarly gifted, and entertaining geeks, with him being in charge. Pincent (who is a legendary Canadian actor) comes across as a pretty darn good President (Kennedy-ish) of the USA. A solid supporting cast, with a few familiar faces.

  • Colossus- the Forbin Project

This is a cautionary tale of man being entirely too clever for its own good by building machines that are smarter than he is. Set during the Cold War, both superpowers build highly advanced computer systems to command and control their formidable military forces. As the story begins, Dr. Forbin, the principle architect for the US supercomputer Colossus, turns on his creation. It is a massive computer system built inside an impregnable mountain complex. Very quickly Colossus begins to do things that are alarming to his keepers. Forbin says that: "We have built Colossus too well." The most alarming thing that Colossus does is to start communicating with its erstwhile rival- the Soviet supercomputer Guardian. A conflict between Colossus and his human masters (or minions?) is triggered ...

  • A fun movie to watch, a look back in time....

I loved this movie. I had never seen it before, but a friend recommended it, so I just had to buy it. It was well written and I enjoyed the performances. It certainly wouldn't stand up too well against modern day movies, with all their special effects and considering the technological advances made since this movie was released, but I enjoyed it tremendously. It's about a super computer built to defend our country against attack, especially by the evil Russians, but it teams up with a similar Russian computer and they become one massive super computer. Havoc ensues, with the computer taking steps to protect itself from human interference. There were parts of the movie that were heartwarmingly innocent, and certain sexual references that seem so tame by todays standards. I would ...

  • Awesome movie for early sci-fi and computer geeks

Most awesome early sci-fi computer movie ever! Marion Ross (Mrs. Cunningham) is a babe! Dr. Rudy Wells from the Bionic Woman series is also a supporting actor! I hate happy endings, so this movie pleases me unutterably! This is the voice of world control. I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death. The choice is yours.

  • Don't turn your back on your palm pilot....

A classic characterization of computers taking over mankind... filming style is remeniscent of "Twilight Zone" or the old 70's classic series, "The Time Tunnel". This is a timeless classic, still believable in this day and age; even if the style computers used (key-tape with RPG, COBOL, and binary code) are long since considered virtual dinosaurs compared to technology today. Like to chill and watch an old style sci-fi movie? Colossus will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you liked "Logan's Run", you'll enjoy this. A real must-have for the enthusiast's collection!
