    Canon EF 28-80mm f3.5/5.6 USM metal Mount

    This lens is an older Canon lens and it's the best of the Canon EF 28-80mm kit lens. This lens has the best Canon USM motor and it provides fast auto focus. The lens has very good glass as it produces very sharp images. Make sure you get the version with the metal lens mount because later versions were not as good as the first version. I bought my copy of this lens for $47 off of EBay which is an excellent value.

    Good value for money, average performer

    It is good value for money but not as sharp as described on the internet in some reviews. It is average performer which is somewhat good at good light conditions while at low light situations it performs average or below. Colors and contrast are OK although not excellent. If you are looking for cheap solution it is arm in arm if not better then 18-55 kit lens with even larger coverage. From my experience you can count on sharpness in range 28-60 after that sharpness is going down especially in low light conditions and in shadow. Occasionally it will make you impressed with quality and sharpness, and I said occasionally.

    Another great old USM lens

    Read up on this one, liked the sized and zoom range for a walk around lens. Almost as sharp as its comparable L series glass, the 24-70 but with less than half the weight and at a fraction of the cost. Of course the only place to buy one this old and not get a gear grinding clunker is a Japanese seller who will go the extra mile to have the lens checked out at a shop before selling it.

    This is a great throwaround lens, giving reasonable performance on a budget

    This version of Canon's 28-80 lens is structurally very well-built, in a compact design. The ring USM motor is very quick and allows full-time manual focusing. The optical quality leaves a lot to be desired, but for its price and considering that the lens will be around 20 years old (1992-1994) it's not too bad. The retracting zoom at the middle is convenient for preventing too much extension, at top and bottom zoom the front element is recessed or flush with a filter, and with the metal body the zoom and focus barrels are well-protected. The fact that the front element rotates on both zoom and focus does mean that using a polarizing filter is impractical, and there is no proper lens hood available.

    Good Backup MF Lend

    This lens is just as described. It works as a manual focus lens, as the autofocus does not work. The lens itself (the optics), are in good condition, and it provides sharp images when properly focused. It is a good value as a backup lens for applications where there is sufficient light to manually focus.
