Product Information

Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course is designed for use with a piano instructor for the beginning student looking for a truly complete piano course. It is a greatly expanded version of Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course that will include lesson, theory, and technique in a convenient, "all-in-one" format. This comprehensive course adds such features as isometric hand exercises, finger strengthening drills, and written assignments that reinforce each lesson's concepts. There is a smooth, logical progression between each lesson, a thorough explanation of chord theory and playing styles, and outstanding extra songs, including folk, classical, and contemporary selections. At the completion of this course, the student will have learned to play some of the most popular music ever written and will have gained a good understanding of basic musical concepts and styles. A great simple to read, easy to understand book.

THIS is the book to get. I doubt you can find a better one for self teaching.A step by step guide filled with knowledge.I am a guitar player that wanted to play piano and read music.I have played guitar 40 years but could not read music. if you are just starting out don't buy the notes to stick on your piano. you don't need them there are only seven notes that repeat over and over. if you can't remember CDEFGAB then maybe you should buy the notes. some people even write them on the keys. OMG.

  • Just what I was looking for.

Have purchased a number of books on playing the piano. All were helpful but left much unexplained and recommended a piano teacher. As a retired person, was not willing to go that route. This book is just what I found lacking in the others. Great buy.

  • Great for the adult learner

I took piano lessons as a child, got through a 3rd grade book, so I started with a bit of theory already, but this book has already taught me even more theory. The short pieces are well chosen for adults, and are not so annoying as the ones in the children's piano books. I did not get the CD version, and I'm kind of wishing I had, as it would be good to know for sure what the piece should sound like. I've made a mistake or two in reading the notes. I'm reading more carefully now, though. I'm using both the adult book and a children's book, since I practice for an hour a day and I don't want to go too fast. I think it's important to internalize the lessons, and that has to go a bit slower. Anyway, I'm delighted with this book, and when I've finished it, I'm going to get the next one ...

  • Best thing next to lessons

This book is a piano course laid out specifically for adults. The content moves briskly, without skipping anything important. It logically builds upon whatever you had just learned. Many of the practice pieces actually sound quite nice. Coupled with some YouTube watching, this is the next best thing to private lessons or a class.

  • Great book for teaching yourself piano from the start

This is a wonderful book. I started with the regular Alfred's Adult Piano (Book one) and felt something was missing; so I then purchased this book. I like it even better that it has all of the theory and exercises included in one book. I have been playing for about a month (approximately an hour a day) and I am 3/4 of the way through this book. Everyone thinks it sounds great too :) I can't believe I'm actually doing it myself and that I am advancing as fast as I am. I will be scouting for the next book shortly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR A SELF TEACHING ADULT
