Disappointing book
I was looking for an encyclopedic book on costume jewelry, unfortunately this is just a collection of photos of items from the author's collection with price estimates that she herself made up. Any collect of jewelry could publish a book like this. The book completely omits some of the most important 20th century designers and manufacturers of costume jewelry (what, no Miriam Haskell?) and has many examples of lesser designers. This is a vanity project (the author has several photographs of herself in the book like we cared what she looks like.) There is also no index of the manufacturers and designers and the examples are not put in any specific order that would make it easy to fine (by colors, by material etc.) Do not waste your money.I was looking for an encyclopedic book on costume jewelry, unfortunately this is just a collection of photos of items from the author's collection with price estimates that she herself made up. Great reference for any collector, wonderful value.
Great book, includes a variety of jewelry types and gives the reader a general value for the pieces. The author gives the new collector an excellent foundation to collecting. Easy to read, you can pick it up, read, lay it down and not lose your train of thought. Again, the variety of costume jewelry explained and the culture that made it, gives the reader an excellent reference.
