Actually a collection of all 6 MACROSS II OVAs, MACROSS II - THE MOVIE is a superb mecha, marked by wonderful animation and character design, by the inimitable Haruiko Mikimoto. Taking place 80 years after MACROSS - DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE?, the film finds the descendents of the Zentraedi/Meltrandi conflict united somewhat uncomfortably against a horde of alien invaders who are renegade Zentraedi threaten the Earth. To defeat the alien menace, the Earth government must resurrect the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross once again.

    Mind-blowing story.

    Follows main character Hibiki on his journey to understand the importance of war reporting in space. Great animation style and very cool 90s color palette. Characters are engaging and well developed. The ships and especially the aliens are very cool and very detailed. Only gripe is that the dub is poor 90s voice acting, thank God Funimation is around these days to do quality dub work. All in all totally worth less than $20.

    Macross II: Rebuilt Better and Not

    It is generally accepted that the redesigns in this film for the infamous Valkyrie fighters and mech in general surpass those of the original Macross for outright sleek, sexy, cool factor. While they will never replace the originals, they are just cool to look at and are probably the only ones that don't overdo what was established in Macross originally - sleek, functional, fast, and powerful. Later Macross epics would drive the Valks to insane levels that even suspension of disbelief would have a hard time functioning. Okay, enough with the Valkyrie frothing. The story for this one follows the same basic pattern as everything else in the Macross Genre - Love Triangles, Aliens turning out to be Allies, Super aliens bent on crushing short-sighted humanity, so many BFG's that you will find ...

    Macross II: The Movie

    This movie is the follow up to Macross: Do You Remember Love. Taking place 80 years after the events of of DYRL, it follows a reporter by the name of Hibiki Kazanaki who gets caught up in the middle of a UN Spacy and renegade Zentradi battle and finds a Zentradi Emulator named Ishtar. Now if you're familar with the Robotech story, then this movie will seem familiar due to the the fact that the first part of the Robotech series is based off the Macross series. If you haven't seen the original Macross, or DYRL, then much of this won't make sense as it's not a Robotech sequel, so just keep that in mind. Well, I hope you enjoy this one if you pick it up.
