Redd Foxx at his Best
Redd Foxx probably put out 50 "party" albums of his blue comedy during his career. Many of the albums were simply tapes of his live performances that were spliced together. Sometimes the "B" side of one album also became the "A" side of a subsequent release. "You Got to Wash Your Ass" is a complete performance from around 1977 that was Redd at his finest. He had gained a lot of popularity from his "Sanford & Son" TV series but most of mainstream America was not familiar with his blue routines. A lot of folks may have bought this album thinking it would be more like Bill Cosby than Richard Pryor, but Foxx has no problem dropping the "F" bomb into his routines in a hilarious manner. His bits touch on real life and force us to laugh at ourselves. His comedy was earthy, to say the least, and ... Redd Foxx probably put out 50 "party" albums of his blue comedy during his career. The only thing lacking from this album is the opportunity to see his facial expressions.
