Excellent book on Hindenburg and airships with finest illustrations. A+
One of the finest illustrated books ever writing on the Hindinburg. Ken Marschall also illustrated the great book "Titanic - an illustrated history" -same excelent type of book. My father and his sister were eye-witnesses to the hindenburg disaster in 1937 and still remember it... The loud BANG and the bright orange flames reflecting in the water puddles as they moved away from it and back to thier mothers car. My father was once inside the hindenburg (he was 9 years old in 1936) and he saw how the hindenburgs piano was so light that it could be lifted up with one hand. He still has the visiting pass and the guest dinner booklet from the 1936 flight. They were at the airfield in 1937 because thier father was a captian in the USMC and at the Lakehurst hospital at the time. Not many folks ... This book is a must for anyone who is interested in the giant airships of the past. It has accounts with photographs and the finest illustrations ( the first 140 pages of this 230 page book explore the history of zeppelins and pioneer airships that led up to the making of the Hindenburg.) The last 90 pages of the book show the majestic Hindenburg airship in all its glory untill the disaster. This book rates a "10".

The brainchild of Graf von Zeppelin, dirigibles, for all their elegant majesty, were in constant search of a mission. They were used for sightseeing excursions, bombing London in World War I, exploring the Arctic, carrying airplanes, and then carrying passengers in luxurious comfort on transoceanic routes. Though each of these roles ended in a deadly catastrophe, a famously flaming one for the Hindenburg, the image of these stately behemoths persists in the imagination. Yesteryear soars spectacularly with this glossy album. Hundreds of photos restore the wonderment the zeppelins induced wherever they flew, as many frames include the gawking crowds they attracted. The text artfully supports the illustrations (and original paintings by Marschall) with details on the birth of rigid-frame ... A Truly Great Book About Zeppelins
My grandfather worked on the design of the Zeppelins back in Germany and I never truly realized how magnificent and beautiful they were till I read this book and looked at the great pictures provided. The pictures of the interior of the Hindenburg are worth the price of this book. The book covers the beginning history of man trying to fly using balloons to get them up to see the world from the air especially during ground battles. The story of Graf von Zeppelin is done extremely well especially his challenge to build the airship of his dreams that would bare his name. The story of the Hindenburg is well written and maps are provided of some of the routes flown. The book also covers the United States and other countries experiments flying Zeppelins. It would be a great book for any age ... I have so many books about airships/zeppelins/dirigibles, that I hadn't realized I already had this one! No matter, I will offer to donate it to my local county library, and hopefully influence younger minds to the awesomeness of Lighter-Than-Air. A life-long interest, anything related to airships is of interest to me. This book is well-written, very informative, many details, and most importantly, very beautifully illustrated. I'm hoping that the library does not already have this book so that I might share this great book with others. The illustrations alone would be interesting to a child, as they were to me, creating a whole new generation of LTA enthusiasts.I have so many books about airships/zeppelins/dirigibles, that I hadn't realized I already had this one!
