Packing could’ve been better, as item shipped in original box with only a layer of clear bubble wrap taped around it. An outer box would’ve been nice, but it arrived undamaged so… No harm, no foul.

    Great product

    I actually purchased this unit as a replacement to the one I purchased almost 14 years ago. I own and operate a video service company and one of my services is to transfer all consumer video tapes to DVD. Since I've owned it I have burned over 3,500 DVDs. It's definitely a work horse. One of the great features of this machine is Flexible Recording where I can set the recording time. Most DVD burners did not have this feature. You were limited to 1, 2, 4, and 8 hour recording time so if I tape was 1 1/2 hours long, you had to record a 2 hour DVD or stand by and stop the recording which was not always possible for me. It was nice to set the exact recording time and walk away.

    A great and dependable unit that will provide many hours of enjoyment

    This is the second one I bought, the first one I bought brand new from a chain and paid over $400 for it. It has no hard drive but records at various speeds from 1 to 6 hrs per disc. The shorter the record time (1 hr) the higher the quality. I record many sports events to watch at more convenient times. The unit performs flawlessly. The unit also records DVD-RAM discs which can be erased and rerecorded. The DVD-R discs though not erasable are fairly inexpensive. Menus are straight forward and easily learned. Programmable recording is simple and step by step, with on-screen prompts. A great value for the money, a great deal if you can find one for under $100 Only drawback is no hard drive, a minor detail.

    Very Happy buyer

    Product does recording on DVD. When using the timer recording, the RAM capability allows you to edit out the commercials while you are watching that recording. Then when watching that recording in the future, there is no need to fast forward thru the commercials. But the machine also has a commercial skip feature if you do not feel the need to edit out commercials. You also have the option to completely delete the recording from the disc if wanted.

    great recorder

    I bought this panasonic dmr 55 as a backup to one i have had for a number of years that is still going strong.It is a durable recorder with a nice picture and plenty of imputs and outputs..I tried other recorders from e-bay but they were to complicated to operate

    Glad I was able to find it!

    My original Panasonic DVR-E55 recorder finally broke after about 20 years. I really wanted the same make and model because it was easy to use and had worked well for so long. Unfortunately, that particular model has been discontinued. Thankfully, I was able to buy this used one which is identical to my old one.
