  • Car-Driving Zombies? Hmmmm....

Brian Keene's book The Rising fulfilled my zombie fixation, but it really took more than what I wanted to give, and I really wanted to like this book. Being a diehard fan of the living dead and zombie fiction (ala George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead), I had to tolerate its many differences from the original, and I did, which is why I gave it an Average rating. The story was not meant to be the same, yet it was not entirely different. The source for the risen dead were different in the fact that the cold flesh-eating machines that are plodding along to eat you are actually flesh-eating, car-driving, word-speaking demons from Hades. Not exactly my definition of the living dead. I've read many other novels too, where the dead take on other forms and identities, and like I've said ...

  • It's a Very Spooky and Gripping Read! Too good

a truly gripping and frightening read! Brian Keene has a new fan! Ebay demands 100 characters before it allows me to release this simple thumbs up for others to read. I find this absolutely the Height of Ignorance upon their part! Blah, Blah, Blah.. Yah yah.. yah, YAH, yah-yaah!

  • The Rising by Brian Keene

Great book from an awsome author who is consistent with good, suspenseful, horror. all of his books are great and this is one of the firsts from Brian Keene. Only problem is with the ending where its almost a cliffhanger but really more of a disapointment. That is fixed though with the sequal, CIty of the Dead, another great book that is a necessity to everyone buying this book in order to know what happens and to enjoy themselves.

  • I felt its a good read

I remember reading the first book anticipating this next chapter an its not a disappointment. I must admit at times being confused of which character the story switched to though once you got past that its one book to continue reading.

  • Well-written, dark and gritty...

This book contained some of the best-written characters I've seen in a long time, and certainly better than any other zombie novel I've ever read. The zombies are actually *interesting* in this one. When I first read it, I was a bit disappointed at the ending...until City of the dead, the sequel, came out. Then it made a bit more sense. Either of these books are good stand-alone reads, but together they rock! I would *love* to see these two books get the big star Hollywood treatment.
