This Camera is Loaded
I agonised over this camera, the 80D, or the 7D MK II, and this one serves my purposes perfectly. If you're familiar with Canon it should be easy to learn the 77D, and if not, just buy a dedicated book on it online, not expensive. I've been using a Canon 300mm f2.8L IS, Canon 100mm f2.8L IS Macro, 10-18mm, 40mm 2.8, 70-300mm IS II, 55-250mm IS STM, and they all work great on this camera. Fast focusing, and easy operation. The articulating touch screen monitor is fantastic, and video is a pleasure with this camera; transitions from one subject to another, such as a hockey game, or just kids dancing in the livingroom are smooth and hardly noticeable; just as good as you'll see on your TV with professional equipment. Another feature of this camera that is amazing for this price point is 6fps with a 27 frame RAW buffer, and unlimited jpeg continuous shooting. I do 90% wildlife and nature, and when I had a camera with 10fps, I set it at 5fps, because I shoot RAW exclusively, and the buffer filled quickly, and I missed much of the action, so the 6fps on this camera with the large buffer is perfect for what I do. This is my hobby, so I don't need a more robust body like the 80D and 7D MK II with weather and dust sealing. The 80D is $300 more than this camera, enough to buy the Canon 10-18mm; and the 7D MK II is $1000 more, enough to buy the Canon 100mm f2.8L IS Macro. First decide what your requirements are; this one meets mine and is within my budget.

Its good but not great.
I would thought that it is comparable to 60D, 70D or 80D, but its was way less features than any of that especially the ability to set a custom white balance for video, there is non, only presets and automatic which was a let down for me. It was advertized as 5 axis image stabilization but its actually electronic which kind warps the image and its nowhere near an actual 5 axis stabilization

Not too large, not too small, just right!
I am on my second 77D after rethinking my priorities and usage details. I bought the first one to replace a T7i, finding the rear control wheel and the AF ON button to make a large improvement. I have owned and used larger and smaller cameras, but this 77D is my goldilocks "just right" camera for ergonomics. The menu and controls suit me very nicely. The images suit my needs very well, and I like the 1080p HD video just fine. I especially like the digital stabilization which gives me good results with hand held footage when coupled with an IS lens. I love the small, lightweight lens choices that provide great results for modest cost. I currently own and use a Canon R6 and regard it very highly also. I love the electronic viewfinder and ibis. I purchased a Fujifilm X-S10 thinking and hoping it would be my perfect camera since it is relatively small, lightweight, and includes the ibis, EVF, and fully articulating screen that I prefer. That camera has great image quality, and all the features I want...but...it just didn't feel as nice to use. The shape and feel of the body is not as pleasant for me, and the menu and controls are not nearly as nice. If I didn't have the R6 I would probably have kept the X-S10 because it really makes nice pictures and has the ibis and EVF. The image quality with the X-S10 is a little better than the 77D, with quite a bit of improvement in high ISO capability. The 77D is good enough and such a joy to use. By the way, I used the X-S10 for almost a year before selling it and purchasing the R6 as my main shooter. I have also enjoyed using Panasonic M43 cameras (G5, G6, G85) and really enjoy the ergonomics of those gems, but the image quality isn't quite as nice as the Canon and Fuji APSC sensors.

Surprisingly good camera
I used to own a canon 5d mark II and L Series lenses. I sold everything when I retired. I wanted to continue doing photography for myself and liked the reviews on this camera. It is not a full frame camera, and the lenses I picked up are not LSeries. But I was stunned at the terrific images this camera can produce. My images are tack sharp and the colors are bright. If you are an advanced amateur or are not afraid to use the modes other than Auto, this camera might be just what you are looking for. I used to own a canon 5d mark II and L Series lenses. Great Camera and Lightweight
I was considering the 77D and the 80D, what sealed the deal for me was the size and weight of the 77D. This one feels great to use! Go to a place that sells both cameras and try them out for size. I’m glad I did! I’m loving the excellent image quality, the high burst shooting, the 45 focus points and the ease of transition from my old 4ti.
