An excellent drama about a fictional WWII submarine mission

An excellent drama about a fictional WWII submarine mission. Very entertaining with excellent acting, production and plot. The producers actually built up two full-size submarine sets to make the film since none were available to use in the movie.

  • Just buy it!

U571 hits on all cylinders: tense, suspenseful drama; WWII intrigue & subterfuge; realistic actor portrayals; creative thinking during life-threatening situations; authentic good-vs-evil; excellent cinematography; believable & gripping story; and triumphant flawed heroes. The movie was a pleasant surprise, especially given that its lead isn't the best of actors (e.g., he can't even act well in simple car commercials). I bought an extra DVD copy to share, which I seldom do. Just buy it!

  • so happy i found this one, not often shown, well worth the time

Great movie...actually saw this one time on tv, some time ago. .Became very happy when i put this DVD in and found it was that same great movie i had seen back then Buy it, watch it, you will be amazed. . Action packed, intelligent, and even moving.... When the captain looks amazed towards the end of the movie i think that i had the same expression. (Purposely leaving out details)

  • I think. HEAVYweight film with great features

TOTALLY realistic. I know several former submariner's and they were impressed with the realism. Of course, they are all nuke suber's but still a very authentic movie. I believe one of my sub friends told me 571 was the ID of our first atomic sub, the Nautilus.

  • A Suspenseful Film

The only thing not autotelic about the film was having the Black man with facial hair. In those days of WWII, the navy was very strict on appearance, and this would NEVER have been allowed. Otherwise, it is a good film.
