Far better than nothing, but it also covers the lense info so I write that on the filter's rim. Not multicoated, shatterproof protector or antistatic, but far better than nothing with no perceptable degradation in picture quality. Serious shooters use a $30 hood that take real filters for better results and all the features this one doesn't have plus the ability to stack more filters.
