Reviews
Praise for How to Train Your Dragon: "Short chapters, clever slapstick, kid-pleasing character names and goofy, childlike drawings will keep even reluctant readers turning these pages--and chuckling as they go."-- Publishers Weekly, "...This is a goofy and exciting tale of an underdog who proves that brains can be just as important as brawn. Kids will hoot at the ridiculous names and sympathize with Hiccup's exasperation with his truly obstinate but strangely lovable dragon. A delightful read."-- School Library Journal, "...This is a goofy and exciting tale of an underdog who proves that brains can be just as important as brawn. Beautiful first American hardbound edition that begins"How To Train Your Dragon" saga

This book completes my hardback set of American-published "How To Train Your Dragon" books. A comparable set was published in England. The book is exactly as advertised.I was delighted to find it available at such a reasonable price, in such excellent condition! This book was a very special acquisition. I am a huge fan of the acclaimed English author Cressida Cowell, whose highly imaginative, strikingly illustrated adventure stories have become international classics. This book initiates the realization of her childhood dream of creating a world in which humans and dragons interact, where both Hiccup and Toothless mature toward their respective destinies. Movie fans should be eager to learn how the wonderful Dreamworks animated film trilogy HTTYD began, and to marvel at how well the ...

  • How to Train Your Dragon

What do you do when everyone expects you to be great, but you are just average and dont know how to even become what everyone expects you to be? This is the challenge that faces poor Hiccup in this book. Being the son of the viking chief means that people expect him to be great and yet everything Hiccup tries to do doesnt seem to work out like he plans. This is a wonderful book that the whole family can enjoy. The story line is creative and funny. The characters are fun to read through and about. Everyone can relate to the series of events that just dont seem to go the right way and yet some how things turn out okay for our hero who is just so average. This is a very delightful book. Highly recommended for children ages 7-12.

  • Good book

My eight year old son loved this book. He now wants to read all the books in this series. At first I thought some of the way it was written was not appropriate, but by the end I realized it was appropriate. The illustrations were not to my liking. My eight year old, on the other hand, liked the pictures. I think it reminded him of his own drawings. The story took a bit to get going, but my son didn't mind. It was well worth reading. We had fun reading it together and talking about what could happen next. This book was harder to read than the Magic Tree House series, but it had some of the same traits with imagination and fantasy ideas.

  • Good book

Gave it to my 3 year old great grandson. He loved it!
