If you do your own service and maintenance on your own (or friends') Mercruiser Alpha (or earlier outdrive), you will eventually need one of these sockets. Yes, you might be able to make your own version of this socket, but for the price that jetskiplusllc sells it for, save yourself a bunch of time and just buy it. Jetskiplusllc shipped fast. The shift cable on my outdrive is getting a little hard to shift, so I'll be using my cable socket this Fall, before Winter layup.

Received the item quickly, and though everything was as described, the Shaft was about 0.0025" thinner than the old one, and had noticeable play when installed (with the supplied bearings). The old shaft fit much better with almost no play. The seller responded quickly and professionally to concerns, but due to eBay return window not open for 10 days after receipt and also to having to return the entire kit (adding 3+ weeks) for a refund/replacemnt , I chose to keep it but not use the new shaft.
