About this product

Product Information

"New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah "touches the deepest, most tender corner of our hearts" (Tami Hoag). Her last novel, "Between Sisters, was chosen by CBS's "The Early Show as one of the best books of the summer. Now she returns with "The Things We Do for Love--a poignant, evocative story that celebrates the magic of motherhood, the joys of coming home, and the price we so willingly pay for love. The youngest of three daughters, Angela DeSaria Malone was always "the princess" of the family, a girl who thought she knew how her life would unfold. High School. College. Marriage. Motherhood. That was how it had gone for her sisters, her cousins, her friends. But it didn't work out that way for Angie. She and her husband tried desperately to have a child; year after year, their perfectly decorated nursery remained empty. Finally, their marriage collapsed under the weight of lost dreams. After the divorce, Angie moved back to her hometown and rejoined her loud, loving, slightly crazy family. In West End, a place where life rises and falls in time with the tides, she will find the man who once again will open her heart to love . . . and meet the girl who will change Angie's life.Lauren Ribido lives in a rundown apartment in a bad part of town with a mother who cares more about her next drink than about her daughter. At seventeen, Lauren knows that her aspirations in life may never come to pass. From the moment they meet, Angie sees something special in Lauren. They form a quick connection, this woman who is desperate for a daughter and the girl who has never known a mother's love. When Lauren is abandoned by her mother, Angie doesn't hesitate to offer the girl aplace to stay. But nothing could have prepared Angie for the far-reaching repercussions of this act of kindness. In a dramatic turn of events, she and Lauren will be tested in a way that mothers and daughters seldom are.

    Great Book

Best ever shape for a 2004 book. It’s the May voice for my book club, so I haven’t read it yet.

  • The title did not actually grab me.

This was one of my favorite Kristen Hannah books, and I've read a lot of them. The book was very realistic about the relationships between sisters. I have 3 daughters and I could relate to a lot of the banterings and the closeness that sisters have and the loyalty they have to each other. There was also some jealousy and competitiveness that was evident in the book. That's very real in my daughters. The inability to bear a child could be a heart-breaking experience and the author handled the subject well. I thought this book was a great read! I could hardly put it down.

  • Fast shipping. Arrived AS NEW condition! Great Seller!!

I LOVE this author. I have all of her books and recomend you do the same! Easy, heart warming stories. The author puts her heart into her writing. These stories (are not), but could be true for someone. ALL of her books are excellent reading. She brings you right into the situation. You "feel" what she is writing. You will not want to put this book down, not even for a minute. Do have another one waiting!! I bought this book because I saw it on e-bay and realized, "WOW" I have not read this one!! It was a must!!

  • The Things We Do For Love

Another winner by this new-found author. I love her style, her sensitivity and abiblity to really tell a story. I love the big Italian family-they are really something. The story of a woman so beaten down by her inability to bear a child who takes under her wing a lovely teanager whose been abandoned by her alcoholic, promiscous mother is heartwarming to say the least. The bonding of these two is wonderful and the story just gets better and better. I highly recommend this book. I feel it is excellent.
